How would Pokémon living in the Polar Biome of Blueberry Academy adapt to their environment and the Pokémon around them? Since this area is entirely artificial it leads to some interesting ecological interactions!

For Duraludon's diet, it basically only has minior to feed on, but the minor are so abundant that I think they might be enough.

2:08 this is such a good observation, because even if fraxure lacks sexual dimorphism they do have the rivalry ability, meaning that them using their tusks for gendered competition is 100% an intended design aspect which is very cool

A neat concept for a video. One detail though: Golett and Golurk wouldn't be in the food chain, at least not anywhere as specific as where they were placed. Their nature as golems, alongside the fact that the pokedex explicitly stating that their power source is unknown, indicate that it wouldn't feed off of electricity. *If* it feeds off of anything, it is probably souls or some other ghostly energy, but it seems equally if not more likely that the power source is entirely self contained, either being infinite as some pokedex entries might suggest, or at the very least running for long enough amounts of time it functionally doesn't matter.

Sometimes I forget that you need more space than you think for many creatures, especially those who need to travel large distances as their food source gets diminished in certain areas. Takin in over two dozen evolution lines, some partitioning niches with members of their family in an area with low plant material and as small of a space as the polar biome, this may sound confusing or be grammatically incorrect, but I think Blueberry bit off more than they could chew with this one.
@geekecology

Oh absolutely! Some of the other biomes might do a little better, but the Polar Biome in particular probably has to supplement all the Pokémon diets there

It is important to remember that the whole "Pokemon regions are canonically bigger than they look in game" rule likely applies to the terrarium as well.
@eikonokyttaro2035
@eikonokyttaro2035 Ай бұрын
@@Articfoxgamez That's a great point to consider, especially since we can fly on our chosen legend, making traversal even quicker and in turn making the biome seem smaller. If it were shown off in the anime though, I would expect it to be many times larger than in the games.

@@eikonokyttaro2035 every pokemon city/town (which is usually like less than 20 houses ingame) usually is shown to be absolutely huge cities in the anime, so I kinda guess that the terrarium in the anime would just be around thrice the ingame size, or even bigger

It’s so strange to think Duraludon(on of my fav mons) as an apex predator! I thought it would be like Aggron where it’s actually an herbivore, but it makes sense Another thing, I was watching a streamer run through this Terrarium, and my first thought was “What does this place smell like?!” It’s just a bunch of blocks separating these locations, but they’re still all somehow temperature controlled, and animal make quite the smell >_>
@geekecology
@geekecology 28 күн бұрын
@@Dragmiredraws That's a great question! Probably can't smell great but if they are feeding the Pokémon I'm assuming they are also removing some of their waste, so that has to help a little?

My opinion on why you can feed berries to Pokémon that seem to be entirely mechanical (magnemite, golurk, Klink, etc.) is that they’re not deriving any actual nutrients from it, they just appreciate the gesture from the trainer

Awesome to see you back and uploading full videos! Always a treat :D I will say i think you dismissed duraludons nieche in the ecosystem a bit. Its very much adapted to cold places since it needs to vent heat often, and while this is conjecture i do think it might be able to at least supplement its diet via electivory (at least its animations suggest this). It might not have its preffered prey but hey maybe thats why it unlocked a new evolution in this environment
@geekecology

Its evolution does certainly make me suspicious of its ability to consume electricity! But it also drastically changes its body plan so maybe there is some niche partitioning going on there?

I love the idea of electrovores acting as primary comsumers (or would they actually be producers?)
@geekecology
@geekecology Ай бұрын
They could probably be both depending on how they generate their electricity. Some Pokémon must absorb electricity to fuel their attacks or their body (consumers) according to their Pokédex entries-but it's unclear if they must regularly charge up or if they just opportunistically absorb it (could potentially be producers).

Porygon eating berries is a simulation of eating I think. It could be a program it has to promote bonding in ways similar to already existing pokemon, like a tomagachi or, well, a pokemon 😅

yknow: even though they arnt seen in game I wouldnt be suprised if the starter pokemon could manage to evolve all the way or the occaisonal fraxure becomes a haxorus, and despite the type advantage i could easily see a haxorus bully a beartic out of a kill, especially if a wild individual has some other species as ancestors and got iron tail as an egg move

assuming that a habitat like this cannot function at this scale assumes a lot about the microbiology of pokemon. From what we can tell, gaseous bodies and “floating” or flying animals are fairly common in almost all habitats, meaning there could be an entire hyper-dense clouds of “aeroplankton” as an entire additional producer. Also the existence of the frosmoth line and durants frequently occurring and sustaining in colder regions could mean there’s entire phylogenies of smaller invertebrates and even subterranean biomass “wells” that could handily provide enough for any large bodied animals able to subsist near them. Ultimately we don’t know enough to make any claims about the intricacies of pokemon ecosystems, because all we are ever shown if animals larger than mice and the abiotic factors around them.

A head cannon I have is Pokemon simply do not need to eat as much as organisms in our reality. That's why they can live in such seemingly extreme and empty environments. They are magical why would they follow all of our logic anyways.
