@@RichardFierceWrites my pleasure, and thank you too! Just so you know how "serious" I am, I put a just now released new audiobook I had been waiting for on the backlog in favour of your story because I feel that I'm too much in sync with your story right now so I don't want to interrupt that. Another one is likely going to go live in a few hours and I will put that one on my backlog as well. @@RichardFierceWrites that seems to be mutual, I feel the same :)) Unfortunately I can't binge-listen forever so I will have to force myself away from it eventually for real life matters but rest assured, I'm burning, figuratively speaking, to continue with it. Oh, I didn't know what "YA" stood for and when I found out I grinned. Must be the inner child in me that allows me to ignore it. I'm probably tripling the YA range of age LOL but well, I don't care. The story is great, that's all that matters. :) Catch you soon I hope and until then, have a splendid time :)

2:09 :38 Never ever with the blade! Your sword edge will break. Against plate with an enclosed helmet, you turn the sword around. Grip the blade, and hit with the hilt. That will really ring his chimes , though it will take a couple of blows. Alternately, close to grappling distance and hit with the pommel. Not as effective, but it may buy you a couple of seconds to stab into the armpit. If you have a dagger handy ,so much the better. swords are not really made for close quarters. Realistically against a full plate harness..the armpit is the only viable target. The eye slits of the helmet are too small for a sword. You try to open him up and stab the armpit, as hard as you can. If your sword can brake the chain guarding that spot, and go past the padding underneath, you win. Provided your opponent hasn't skewered you by then. The only sure defence against a full plate armoured opponent is..RUN! No really, run around , make him chase you. He 's got around 50lb extra weight on, chances are he'll tire first.

Someone is transporting a DRAGON, the priced mounts of the kingdoms most secretive and powerful elite force that can fly, spew fire and even turn people into mages, with a total of three random guards they found wandering town one day, they aren't even trained professionals pretending to be mercenaries? If one of them had died in an accident, or gotten killed or injured badly (by a large angry lizard for example) or even just sick, they wouldn't even have enough to have proper guard shifts around camp. I'm trying so hard to suspend my disbelief but holy hell this is like someone smuggling a jet fighter on a cruise liner through Somali pirate infested water with three mall guards as security.
@RichardFierceWrites3 жыл бұрын
There's more than 3 people, you just see those 3 for the most time. There's more guards than that, lol. 3 people couldn't push a stuck wagon out of sand.
@Ackalan3 жыл бұрын
@@RichardFierceWrites Yes, I am aware of the other people in the caravan but for some reason they all seem like they are civilians, no other guard is ever mentioned even during fights to the death.
@40bpaula3 жыл бұрын
You're listening to an audio book that tells a tale that takes place on an imaginary planet with fairytale creatures but you are having trouble suspending your disbelief? I would have thought that would be a prerequisite for even starting this book. But okay, let me see if I can help. So the caravan had a wizard who helped with illnesses and injuries, exp. Jeff. It also sounds like this job was a one-of-a-kind opportunity that they took advantage of, exp. the red dragon's dream. and lastly, there were other people in the caravan, exp. when the wheels got stuck other hands helped dig the wagon out.
@Ackalan3 жыл бұрын
@@40bpaula The thing about suspending disbelief is it's supposed to be between reality and the world in the story, not between decisions made within the story. I can accept there are giant flying lizards and people that can wave their hands around and make lightning fly at whatever they want. I can't accept that someone who's planning on toppling the world leading power is transporting his smuggled secret weapon without any loyal and experienced troops guarding it. It makes no sense because the value prescribed to the dragon inside their world is that of a kingdom crushing monster. And the security they send is fewer guards than people use to guard their town gates in peace time (was also described in the first book). This make so little sense that trying to justify it can only be done by assuming the scheming mastermind and all his advisors and minions are completely and utterly insane. So yes, I am aware of the setting, but unless you're trying to tell me that these people value their lives so little that they'll bring only three guards (the only ones mentioned in the entire segment) they randomly found in a market place to a desert infested with man eating lizards and god's know what else. Then you're going to have to be a lot more convincing. For all these caravaners knew their new "guards" could be bandit spies! so it makes no sense for the caravan to have so few and unknown guards either. And if you really want to have any hope at all of helping me not just staring at the screen in disbelief every time something is being described as utterly moronic, then you should probably bring up something about the points I wrote as the primary reasons I couldn't get into the story and not some random bits I'm already aware of, have mentioned myself and isn't an issue.
