BL3 and WL are both always online games purely for the fact that playing offline guts your game of hotfixes, which often rely on bug fixing and balance changes.
@ginnosaji55775 ай бұрын
There is a difference between always being online and only requiring a quick handshake between device and server to get the said hotfixes. Borderlands mmo will become a digital paperweight the moment your connection is not up to the task or if/when the servers shut down for whatever reason, meanwhile you can still play Borderlands 3 even if you don't have the latest hotfixes. The two are not the same. Additionally, you can get the hotfixes while being connected to a network, and still keep them as long as the game is still open (e.g network goes down, you are on a handheld with shifty connection/sleep mode disconnects you).

If the game isn’t open world and keeps in game areas separate in order to load instances and not have everyone with you at all times, and if it lets you play offline, then it would be a great experience. Imagine you and your buds or some strangers online in a pandora instance with a big map come and meet one another to join a 4-player team. You and your team can act the same as online co-op, and it means that almost everyone on a server can work as a team, work in groups, or work alone. The co-opetitive mechanics would go extremely hard in this game if it was a setting you could enable when you join the game. If it’s enabled, there’s a limited loot pool all across every respective map, and all players in a server can compete to get the most of it, and can fight one another for it if PVP is enabled

It could be nice if it isnt going to be their main focus. Just a separate game thats it. I could see a possibility of a MMO as long as they dont make it pay2win. Only paying for cosmetics is enough. And dont make a crazy grind for something and payboxes to speed up the process. Just a simple MMO spin-off but the main focus should be borderlands loot&shooter style game. I would love to see a bl4 with a good story decent loot system Awesome dlc's. And more side games or events that are actually good. I also would love to see a classic borderlands type of game, something with the mechanics of bl1 or bl2 as a spinoff. Maybe not as a vault hunter but a different type of character in the game. But thats my opinion.

I really think that the negative association with microtransactions comes with the assumption that means lootboxes. I'll spend money on something I know I'm getting, whether that comes in the form of a giant DLC or a new skin for my character, but I refuse to pay for the "opportunity" to win a prize. I would most likely end up buying and playing a Borderlands MMO, but I have to admit that half of the fun in playing a Borderlands game is finding new mods after playing vanilla to see what exciting new ideas another creator has put forth all this effort into creating. I've never played an MMO on PC, but it seems like the kind of thing you'd get banned for if you Gibbed your save file for example. Here's to hoping they do end up outsourcing, I already can't stand not being able to join a party of 2 or 3 people in current games! Cross-platform was such a great addition, I just wish it worked consistently.

im so on board with the MMO Live Service idea. Only issue i'd have would be the constant internet connection requirement. I play all BL games solo anyways, an internet requirement makes me think back to my days in boarding school where there was one little hotspot that hundrets of people all at once used. My 5kbps dataplan on phone was more reliable than this (that was in 2017-2022 might i add). Bad or even No internet is still a thing and i can imagine that many people just like me came to love borderlands because it allows for offline play. To me thats just an essential part to the BL experience even tho nowadays im a lot better situated in terms of connection and speed. Having it be playable offline, as in, letting it download every new content drop every month or two and then going back into steam offline mode, would certainly make me feel more confident in a BL MMO. I know this defeats the whole purpose of what MMO means, after all the O stands for Online and not Offline, but I honestly can't see an *actual* MMO work in the borderlands universe. Like, hundrets of people all at once everywhere seeing each other and sharing gear, throwing grenades, triggering their character abilities and all that... I just cant see that happening. Limiting map spaces to below 20 players sounds a lot more doable but when you're already limiting playernumbers then why not also make it playable solo and then even offline too, yknow? idk im just rambling, not even sure if anyone will read this. lol hey if you read this reply with "bazinga" that'd be funny. But ye anyways I really like the BL MMO Live Service idea but i would be concerned about the whole offline thing since its been one of mine and probably some other peoples key selling points for every BL game

Honestly, the only way it could work (without draining resources from the mainline games) is if they had another studio develop it, or just handle the post-launch support. Like how Bethesda had Zenimax Online Studios do Elder Scrolls Online, or how Bethesda has some other studios work on some of the newer content for Fallout 76 while they developed the main game.

BL2 had no microtransactions, it had DLCs. It's a technicality that Randy Pitchford has hidden behind before. For something to be a microtransaction it needs to either be already in game and you just pay to unlock or be some kind of consumable you pay for. The BL2 stuff were neither consumable nor stuff that was already in the game's files, it was extra stuff you'd download after buying, making it technically a DLC.
