To be a successful team you need to have Silk and Steel, we have a lot of Silk but not much Steel. No nasty players, no players to have a go at their teammates. We are pretty to watch in the middle, at both ends we are ineffective. Even the keeper, his shots to saves ratio is awful this season.

Completely agree with alll of you, good assessment of yesterday. I haven’t seen much criticism of the ref, had a massive impact on key players, hackney within 3 mins, obviously changed how he played, Rav got a booking early on, which will have changed the way they played. But it cannot take away from the fact we missed our chances and the best quote I heard yesterday, what a load of fart and not a single turd produced…

I think the ref whinges got lost in amongst the discussion. Haven’t watched the penalties claim(s) back, but the card happy approach was quite frustrating! 😅

10 Games is enough to see how your seasons is shaping up. Totally agree with all your comments guys and I think Tom has nailed it with the recommendations of who to swap out. I think 'trust the plan' is now being shoved aside. Yes when it works it works well but its a cointoss as to what Boro side turns up. We now need to see Carrick giving kicks up the Arse rather than 'taking positives' from games. The fact he opened with a negative about saying the same things over and over in the post-match speaks volumes for me. As much as I enjoyed Latte Lath's purple patch and admit we've had injuries we need a second striker. A hot and cold one means you have no consistency and we're just praying he comes good. Regards to the system, same thing we need a plan B and don't have one. I'm a Coburn fan and still agree he needed to be sent out on loan but if we had a player with his attributes our default plan B is obvious. Once we've worked the ball up the pitch instead of horseshoeing it, failing to unpick a block or waiting for someone to beat their man or thread a miracle pass, you've got a target man to aim for when the box is packed. Nail the header or bundle the second ball over the line. Is it pretty tippy-tappy dominating possession football? No. Does it work? Yes. We never really replaced Chuba and I think thats the final puzzle piece here. Lets hope for changes to the system for now and hold out for a backup striker in January. I really want Forss to be given a shot up front if we don't find anyone.

Regarding the qaulity of shots we get off, i agree with Dana totally. People say we had however many shots against derby but if any had resulted in a goal their keeper would of felt he made a mistake with it. There are a lot of half chances at best that we create, UTB

Carrick also should switch things around too from game to game ie 3-5-2 one game 4-4-2 next game etc because opposition are figuring us out by playing the same way each game! We could also switch formations in each game.

Carrick should have made changes at half time, should have taken Azaz and Lath off replaced with Conway and Forss.

Regarding Latte, I think he has always looked like if he has time he struggles. On that run at the end of last season there was quite a few instinctive finishes I think. Even when he has had a touch or however many before the strike and scored they still seem off the cuff. The first one at home to leeds he sort of cut back and got a shot off quick, qpr away, even the cardiff goal at home he was central and ended up wide then slipped, resulting in getting off a quick shot. Before yesterday I said I would drop him if he didn't score, I think we just need to try something different now, UTB

Great pod again, shame it is in trying times. Azaz’s shooting is powderpuff. Get Gilbert in the 10 role, Forss RW, Riley on the left and keep Lath in for the next 2. Clarke has to play for me alongside Rav. I think that team beats Utd and Norwich. Appreciate we don’t know if Gilberts fit. If not then I guess Finn stays in. Keep the faith. Totally behind Carrick myself and agree with Dana, most of our situation is on the players, but do worry we miss Danksy backstage. Love the authentic nature of this pod. If I was Carrick I’d show it to the squad to get their dander up (oooh er missus). Until next groundhog day peeps, up the Boro Breakdown 👍

Great pod. Couple of bits to add / discuss. If we lose to SUFC our start is the same as last season's disaster, arguably easier fixtures this year. And what is going on with RvdB, miles off the player of the season we saw, has his head gone down as wanted the Fulham move? Looks disinterested, shrugging his shoulders etc. HT on Saturday Morris went over to him to gee him up to get in as was trudging about...

It’s Lath and Azaz, both need dropping, 1 goal, a penalty, between them in 10 games, it’s professional sport and players must deliver or they get dropped, end of.

Until yesterday, our two goal scorers, 9 and 10 had scored one goal between them, a penalty and two assists, two corners, in 18 appearances. What the hell did he think would happen yesterday? Lath, missed another sitter, Azaz again, missing the target. This is on the manager. I think Azaz was excellent in league one and bottom of the Championship with Plymouth but the high octane top end is revealing he can't hack it. LL looks like a busted flush. I have a sinking feeling, back end of last year was good for him as there was zero pressure.

We can't rely on a striker that's not scoring goals. Its not like its just been a couple of games its 10 and keeping him in is keeping another one out who could be scoring

Like the optimism but can’t see us getting nothing this week with Norwich on Saturday too then the inevitable loss vs Coventry then rock bottom QPR will win 1-0 and that will be curtains for carrick. Wow Boro have sucked the life out of me 😂

With respect to Dana, her opening statement that the players make the mistakes, and so Carrick only deserves a minority of the blame. By implication, take out the mistakes and we’re still not scoring. So at best, Dana is unwittingly advocating for draws. With that team, and with the attacking mentality, mistakes shouldn’t matter a jot. Carrick must learn to stop saying ‘there’s not much wrong’. It’s wearing thin, and I’m a strong supporter of Carrick. If we don’t put teams to bed, there’s a fundamental problem, and something very wrong.

Finn Azaz is looking more and more like Barlasser mark 2. He makes nice passes when given time and space, but is week under any real pressure, is completely devoid of any pace, and his feet are so slow he looks like he's wading through treacle. We cant really press with any conviction from the front due to his lack of pace. He's not good enough for a team with intentions of promotion. He hasn't carried his Plymouth form to boro yet and doesn't look like he ever will. I would put Gilbert in ahead of him every time when he is fit.
