@mhmhm53373 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming it does not, his portfolio does however have a lot stronger liquidity and a very low-risk profile compared to the S&P 500. I have not checked if he beats the S&P 500, but I assume he does not. There might be a chance he actually does, but I'm not really certain. However, if he does beat the S&P 500 index he might have the best portfolio in the world. considering his low-risk profile and his investments into high liquidity markets.
@maxfenig84603 жыл бұрын
If you think we are approaching the end of the bull market (like Ray Dalio does) then you don't want to be trying to 'beat the S&P'. Anything that beats the S&P during a bull market will mostly likely crash harder than the S&P when the party ends. You want to be buying stocks that are more stable (consumer staples like WMT, PG), undervalued (foreign/emerging markets) and things that can actually go up during a bear market (like gold). If you want something that beats the S&P then you can buy the NASDAQ ETF (QQQ) or one of Cathy Wood's ARK ETF's but just keep in mind that it could crash hard at any time and then take many years to come back up. Also, keep in mind that there are no 'safe' investments anymore, and indexes that have performed well in the past might not be the best choice for the next 10 years. The Fed has effectively painted itself into a corner by recklessly printing money and lowering interest rates for 40+ years, and will not be able to save the stock markets the next time they crash because interest rates simply cannot be lowered any more than they already have been. Considering inflation, real interest rates are already below zero.

What about bonds? Didn't see any bond in the pie... or are they a part of the ETF mix? (I'm a total newbie to finance)
@ryandougherty22793 жыл бұрын
Dalio has been pretty vocal about staying out of US bonds right now.
@maxfenig84603 жыл бұрын
Those are equity (stock) ETF's which would not hold any bonds, but you can actually buy bond ETF's which hold bonds and are probably the easiest way for you to invest in bonds if you don't have a lot of money and are doing it yourself as opposed to working with a financial advisor. The problem with bonds, however, is that with today's skyrocketing inflation and record-low interest rates, most bonds and bond ETF's will effectively have a negative yield (after adjusting for inflation) unless you want to go with high-yield and/or junk bonds which are risky. Still they may be better than holding cash long term. You could look into some fixed income/bond ETF's that are inflation-protected like IVOL or LTPZ and yield around 2% - 3.5%. Keep in mind that the prices on these can fluctuate a lot, so if you are going to want to sell them anytime soon you might end up with a loss. If you hold them long-term then the dividends will most likely offset any price fluctuation. If you want a short-term alternative to holding cash then you could choose some bond ETF's that are fairly stable in price like VGSH, BSV, FISR, SCHO, STOT and yield anywhere from 0.7% to 2% - even these can have small price dips but when they do they usually come back up within a few weeks or months. Having said all of this, it might be better and easier to just hold some combination of cash and the gold (GLD) ETF referenced in the video to balance out the risk that you are taking by holding your stocks right now. Also keep in mind that you can still find many undervalued stocks that pay 3-5% or even higher dividends, especially in the consumer staples, materials, and real estate sectors which is a higher dividend than you would get from a typical bond ETF. Companies like Rio Tinto (RIO), Chevron (CVX), BHP, Dow Chemical (DOW), Pfizer (PFE), and Kraft-Heinz (KHC) are all well established and are currently paying relatively high dividends compared to the S&P 500 average which is about 1.5%.
@LIFE-OF-MINERVA3 жыл бұрын
Great Video - can I ask how you came to learn how his portfolio contained? Is it public knowledge somewhere - that I can check out for myself? Thanks
Here’s the thing about manually diversifying by investing in a lot of individual stocks vs. investing in an ETF. Although the market as a whole, tracked by the ETF, will go up or down, individual stocks will also go up or down differently from that global average. Selling an ETF to realize capital gains means you are forced to sell some underlying stocks at a time when they might not be performing very well. If you invest in individual stocks, this gives you greater liquidity, and you can sell cyclical stocks when they’re performing well, to maximize capital gains. Of course, the caveat is that ETFs will usually be far more diversified than what you could build yourself. Still, something to keep in mind.

Well, you're right in a way, but in defense of Dalio's portfolio, he could sell individual stocks from this portfolio at opportune times, whereas with VOO or VTI you could only sell shares of the ETF, so selling stocks at good and bad times equally. You might lose some value on cyclical stocks like that. But its true the overall the results would be pretty similar. VOO and VTI (or similar products) are easily the best choice for 99% of retail investors.

Despite the desire to establish a constructive and long lasting relationship, this company offers short-term investments with daily profits and partial return of initial deposit on daily basis as well. In-depth market analysis has allowed us to create the best offer that would greatly interest you. This is a pure cryptocurrency income with the ability to instantly withdraw your accumulated surplus and of course to have an unlimited amount of deposits at the same time. Within the investment project, they operate both cryptocurrencies and the most popular electronic currencies

getting wealthy vs staying wealthy mindset difference. for someone trying to get wealthy its diworsified but for someone trying to stay wealthy its not.

@@Pythonizah then just buy vti and be done with it. if you pay a fund manager then its because they promise you to outperform. 95% of them don't. when you buy a piece of every cake available its impossible to outperform. these guys of course dont care cause they pocket fat managment fees whereever the market goes... dalio lost 10 billion of his clients money in 2020...

@@beautifulandtoolate Buffett pockets 100.000 usd a year for management fees. VTI is fine for the normal everyday investor. The ultra wealthy probably do not care about outperforming the market.
