A Brief History of Dorking Wanderers FC - "Forever The Underdog"

Dorking Wanderers Football Club was founded in just 1999 with jumpers for goal posts. They first played in the Crawley and District League and since that time have won 9 promotions. As we write they currently sit top of Ryman League Division One South, just three promotions away from professional football. This is such a great achievement for such a young club. Sitting here at home on Spain's north coast, My mind's taken back almost 70 years to seeing my first Dorking match at their then ground of Pixham Lane. I remember the Meadowbank ground being inaugurasted by Walter Winterbottom and being the general factotem of the reserves for a couple of years and always remembering to take a pair of boots in case we could only muster up 10 players. I even managed to score once at Hertford and to be on the winning team at Wembley (Vs Wembley F.C. reserves). Those were the days.

I played and scored there for Loxwood … county 3 we won the league dorking came 2nd we both went up .. the rest is history now I watch them play my team woking … mad story love it ❤️⚽️

Looks like Dorking FC (over 130 years old) who they were about to groundshare with folded as there were delays getting the new stadium ready. Dorking Wanderers are now in the top division of the non-league pyramid.
