A friend of mine bought an ab10 for $100 back in the day and I don’t think I ever saw it fire more than two rounds without jamming.. it would then usually dump a handful of unfired ones out if the ejection port. It was pretty useless. He actually did have to rely on it for self defense on one occasion though. Almost. We were driving back from a shooting trip when we happened to catch a glimpse of a mountain lion on the side of the trail/ forest road. I flipped the jeep around to try and get a decent look at the thing and managed to get it stuck. Really stuck. It was already dark so this left us with the option of hiking out to find help.. with a mountain lion last seen within about 40’ of us. There were four of us in the jeep, two were fiends visiting and with us at the time so I decided to leave them with the car and the most powerful gun with us, a 357magnum revolver. This left myself with a beretta bobcat 22lr pistol and my friend with an essentially single shot ab10 to trek through the woods to find help. We never saw the mountain lion again but we were fairly certain that it was following us just off the road.

90’s memphis inspired music, lil ugly mane, 2 low key, and the tec-9, dope video btw, also had a tec/9 charging handle break off and almost hit me in the face mid shooting, thing was not cheap to replace.

I had a TECDC-9 with the single sling point and factory 36 round mag. It shot to point of aim luckly and overall ran great. But some people just could not shoot it reliably, limp wristing. I could do it 1 handed sideways or whatever and it ran flawless, hand it to someone else and jam after jam, stovepipes. Finally one day I go to fire some rounds into a flooded dry lake bed in the middle of the night and 1 round fires then click, rack it and click. Turns out the firing pin broke. Had it around 10 years and traded it to a friend for a 180 series Mini 14. He replaced firing pin and had it a couple years when it was stolen from his house. One thing I didn't like was the barrel had some movement being only crimped in but it still shot accurate enough

My dad used to have one of those and although I absolutely loved how it looked, it looked alot more badass than it actually was. Although it was powerful enough it was very inaccurate even for a handgun and it was very prone to jamming and misfires, I remember he tried to sell it several times and no one would buy it because it had such a bad reputation in the gun world. If they had banned the tec 9 back then I seriously doubt the pro2A crowd would've cared. As usual the lamestream media created nothing more than unnecessary pandomonium surrounding it.
@provenancemachining Жыл бұрын
Almost all of the jamming issues stemmed from a very poor magazine design and warped feed lips. The user manual if I remember right actually says to pull down slightly after inserting the magazine in order to fully seat it, otherwise the bolt will not run parallel over the feed lips (or worse, bend them during operation due to the angle of the magazine). Holding the gun by the magazine would also induce jams since the magwell has a fair bit of wiggle room. I'm currently testing some modified suomi mags to see if they are a more viable alternative, since original steel TEC-9 mags are getting pretty cost-prohibitive assuming they don't already have bad feed lips from years of abuse. These guns also seem to favor the shittiest quality of ammunition that you can find, I've heard people have had the best luck with cheap 9mm steel case. Really the main thing about this handgun was it's mean looks and it's large capacity magazine for it's time for such a cheap price; something a typical Rohm .22 Saturday-Night special couldn't offer. The original KG-9 and KG-99 were built to slightly better standards and are considered to be much more desirable guns out of the TEC-9 family of firearms.
@art782 Жыл бұрын
@@provenancemachining yeah that brings back memories of how shitty that gun was, I do remember that the magazines he had were both pretty knarled up on the top and I remember him also mentioning something about the rifling in the barrel being cut way too shallow which led to it not even being able to hit a target just ten feet away in one instance! One of the last times I remember hearing about the tec 9 was when I read that the US army bought 10,000 of them to do trials to ultimately use them as a submachine gun for army special forces and all 10,000 got rejected! Not long after that I heard intratec arms was out of business, still loved the looks of the gun though and I wish a better company would bring it back.

@@art782 Now that I am getting a bit deeper into the 3d print world, I'm working on a near 1:1 accurate replica of the polymer frame based on measurements from my AB-10. I don't particularly care for some of the designs currently out already that use glock mags and require modifications to the ejector. With a new buffer or stronger springs, it could be another viable option for these parts kits that tend to come up. There will probably be a video on that later on down the line.

Were can i rin my serial # to see what year mine dc9 was made?
@provenancemachining8 ай бұрын
You can't. There are no databases I'm aware of or even community forum-managed databases on Tec-9 serial numbers. Whatever information was on those numbers died when Intratec and Navegar went under. The only way you can get close on dating your particular weapon is by features, or lack thereof. If your DC9 has a single sling mount with a crimped barrel trunnion instead of spot welded on the upper tube, it was made sometime between 1992-1994 before the AB-10 model was introduced after the Assault Weapons Ban. Spot welded trunnions (sometimes crimped) and double sling mounts, one on the tube and one on the back end, usually indicates early 1991 to the end of that year when the pistol was re-branded, but not yet updated to reflect the changes for California state law. In general: Front button sight - 1984 to mid 1987 (one of the originals) Stamped front sight with two sling mounts on the upper - Mid 1987 to 1991/92 Stamped front sight with single sling mount - 1991/92 to 1994

There is a 3d printable lower receiver that is set up for glock magazines, however you will need to modify your ejector to use it. I personally don't care for the slant glock mag look.

glock mags would look ugly and out of place attached to a tec 9 style gun at least thats what im imagining
@joshuahawkins27435 ай бұрын
The tec9 mags were more flawed than the pistol itself after inserting the mag several times the feed lips would start to bend and after bending them back so many times they would snap off but I still love this pistol I think what I had was a ab10
