I'm a little worried what these bazaar nuclear weapons say about their country of origin. Tzar Bomba - Russia: likes them big; I guess there's nothing too wrong with that. Davy Crockett - US: ok with putting that kind of world ending fire power into the palm your hand; Really needs to get over that gun obsession. The Blue Peacock - Britain: lets combine the apocalyptic power of the atom bomb with the human rights nightmare that is landmines... lets throw on a dash of animal cruelty, perfect; Are you feeling ok there Britain?
@jimtaylor294
@jimtaylor294 4 жыл бұрын
Ironically the subject of Nuclear Landmines is often mentioned with the USA as the implied country that had it in mind, but then again nuclear mania was mostly their thing at the time. As for "animal cruelty"... technically being instantaneously vaporized by an A Bomb... one of the least worst ends a Chicken could face.

Seriously, chickens!? There was no way of incorporating some sort of oil heater or electrical device? I just can't imagine that stuffing a few chickens and some grain into an atomic device is the optimal solution! @deathbypowerpoint well chickens maybe reliable when healthy, but where exactly are the British military going to get a bunch of healthy live chickens in the middle of a nuclear war!? I was in southern Germany in the US Army in the mid-1980s. When I arrived, the first meeting I had was an introduction to USAFE (US Armed Forces Europe) where I was informed that our only real purpose here was to try and slow down the Russians should they invade, to buy the USA enough time to gear up for full-scale war, a reassuring thought. Having said that, I had some of the best experiences of my life during my time there. Beautiful country and great people, food and beer!

@@LordAlacorn Yea, that bomb was supposed to be twice the yield 100Mt. The chief designer argued that it would be pointless since the fireball would be so big that most of the energy would simply vent in to the space. fyi, there are far more than 'nuclear minitions' that were installed in germany. There were teams of US engineers from the engineer corps that maintained even conventional explosives much larger than this that would be used by a retreating army. It's pretty much like that at every major stronghold point all the way back to france throughout europe. These nuclear landmines would have been a drop in the bucket compared to what the US put there and.. a lot of it is still there.

There were already atomic artillery rounds and tactical nuclear missiles available or in the late stage of development. They could be used to actually target enemy concentrations without having to hope the enemy would congregate around your nuclear bomb/chicken coop. This seems like the kind of thing developed in some defense establishment where the employees had no idea what was already available or on the drawing board for the army.
