As someone new to hammocking, this video contains very useful and clearly demonstrated information. It is quite obvious that a lot of work went into making this video (various angles, closeups, editing, audio), and I must say that your efforts are very greatly appreciated. Thank you kind sir!

Grizz, I have seen this video about 20 times. Also, thanks for the shopping list. I went directly by it. Now I am proud to say that I have a complete hammock setup just as you showed it. Thanks

Newbie hammocker here, just bought an ENO doublenest and installed my own ring/webbing system. It feels good to mod it myself! It can be mite overwhelming to see all the suspension options out there, so i went with the simplest for me. Thank you for this clear, awesome explanation of how to hang!

Just come across this vid from the Hammock Forums, I love the fact that you put the clip of ending up on the ground, after years of hanging this still happens to me occasionally, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Thank you very much. I am a veteran backpacker but new to hammocks. Your video demystifies the whole suspension thing. Thanks again.

Still my go to suspension method, 3 years into the hobby now. Not the lightest, but very easily adjustable and flexible, I’ve used it around everything from redwoods to palm trees. I got a a couple lengths of 2” Seatbelt material for more delicate trees, and just bend it onto the 1” webbing with a water knot. Thanks for this video, a fine resource going on 9 years now,

If youtube had a "sticky" feature, this set of vids would be reference material. Cheers! Nice stand of wood you have there behind you, BTW.

Thank You for this video. It is the most helpful video I have found (covering any subject) on you tube. My only complaint is that I didn't order 100' of the Amsteel Blue Cord. This stuff is absolutely amazing. It's light weight, strong, and smooth as silk. It is by far the best all around hiking rope. Thanks Again, -BMF

Grizz, these primers are absolute KZbin classics! I can't count how many times I've come back to them as reference guides. Thank you so much for the info. My question is this : can I use flat strapping or must it be tubular webbing?

I appreciate the comment. I really had no idea three years ago when I made these videos that they would prove to be so often viewed! They get x10 more views than any of the others I've made.

10' - 12' of webbing is typical. If you have a biner you can leave the webbing in the rings or cinch buckle when you tear down, so they're there when you set up again. You can save the weight and cost of biners by doing as you say, but have to completely disconnect and reconnect with every tear-down/set-up

The most secure knot to tie is webbing is a water knot. Check out "How to tie a Water Knot." Very easy to tie.

I used rings for quite a while because (i) I had them, (ii) the rings have multiple uses, and (iii) they are marginally lighter than buckles---at least the buckles I knew of at the time. I liked the rings. I imagine I would have liked the cinch buckle too, it just never got a lot of use. When I started using other suspension methods, I was easily able to find other uses for my rings.

Subbed and liked you. May I ask where you bought your 9 dollar hammock? If you can believe it, I put a hammock together with a 1 dollar tarp 4x6 rather short with sheetbends, paracord and some rope just for fun and it worked well enough to take a nap for a few hours. Feet were on the rope but it worked. Will watch more of your vids, thx.

Nice video. How long is the webbing on each end please? Also why bother with the biner after you tie the loop in the end? Why not just feed the webbing through that loop? Thanks.

about 12' if memory serves. Could realistically do with less...8' would be work for almost all tree diameters and tree spans that I encounter.

I know that amsteel is recommended but if you dont have that is 550 paracord acceptable?

Not recommended for any load bearing application, e.g. the main suspension to tree. It stretches a lot, to begin with, and the safe working load (on the order of 5x the average working load) on it is way too close to the kind of stress one sees on the suspension. _Multiple_ strands of paracord will up the safe working load, but you still have the stretchiness.
