Salutations, Ladies and Gentlemen! Today, I'll be discussing an immaculate take on a classic Doctor's Knife! This piece is made by Rosecraft Blades, an up and coming brand based in Maryville, Tennessee. Founded in 2021 by Andy Armstrong, Rosecraft Blades has already risen to the top of the pile in terms of quality-to-price ratio.
The RCT004 Holston River Surgeon's Knife is a pattern based on a traditional 'Doctor's Knife'. These were often carried by Doctors on house-call. Their slim shape made them easy to slip into a bag or pocket. The long, main-blade is somewhat similar to that of a Melon Tester/Fruit Knife. The secondary tool on a Doctor's Knife is typically a spatula, which carried a wide variety of uses. On this model, however, Andy opted to go with a small, Wharncliffe blade. Despite not being a 'traditional' part of a Doctor's Knife, the smaller, secondary blade holds a great deal of use in a tracheotomy. The addition of this scalpel-like blade granted this piece the title of "Surgeon's Knife".
Overall, despite being a somewhat modernised take on a classic pattern, the Rosecraft Holston River Surgeon's Knife is an absolute joy to own, and regardless of it's peculiar style, it's quite the lovely carry. This Plague Doctor is certainly pleased!
