Discover how the British Government has turned its back on the British Gurkhas’ hour of need, rendering them second-class citizens despite having served as equals. A British Betrayal - The Gurkhas' Battle for Equality.
The Gurkhas have fought loyally for the British Army for over 200 years and through both World War I and World War II plus more. However, they have been let down in more ways than one and not given a fair and equal pension compared to their British counterpart. The Gurkha veterans have also staged numerous hunger strikes for a full British army pension but to no avail. The fight for equal pension continues.

Absolutely on the spot well documented relating to Gurkhas injustice & discriminatory treatment to the Gurkhas by the British government & by the ministry of defence. I am sure this podcast will help to eliminate doubts to the British public eyes about mistreatment & discriminatory behaviour by the ministry of defense. Let's hope upcoming government to government talk will give long awaited justice to all retired Gurkhas. Jai Nepal jai Gurkhas.

After watching this excellent podcast, the governments of Great Britain and Nepal should have joint official agreement in the forthcoming Government to Government Talk to give the A to Z British equalities inclusive of one for one service pension to those ex British Gurkha soldiers who retired before 2009 and replace the GOTT and the GPS by the British Army pension to those Gurkha veterans who got retired before 2009. This simple solution will definite resolve the Gurkha issues and the both governments can sign in the new Bilateral Treaty as a justful change for good.

My father was embedded with the Ghurkas in Malaya. And held them in high esteem. Often proclaiming them to be up among the best soldiers he ever served with. Absolutely loyal to the British to a man. Loyalty goes both ways. Time for the British goverment to step up and give equality to warriors that punched above their weight for the benefit of the British nation. As an ex serving soldier myself. I find this inequality unfair and unjust. Best of luck lads.

Most peoples in India makes less than $400 a month. Cource if they move to USA and complete some education they can make $3000-4000+ a month. Gurkha's upon UK Military retirement strives for equalty. With that $amount or retirement those who chose to retire can live like Royalty. Average UK retired military person don't live like Royalty!!!

This makes me ashamed! They should be given complete equal status to a British citizen! They have fought and died with us They deserve it! Please change it so they can have what is rightfully theirs. I wouldn't say it is discrimination but ALL gurkhas should get what they were promised regardless! Please get in contact with Joanna Lumley she will definitely try to help with this 100% Upon watching the end of the video I'm I'm little confused so if a gurkha has an answer or knows more please forgive me but do correct me too, if the talks are happening between the government's in the uk and Nepal, there is a huge possibility of error and miscommunication. This doesn't justify what is happening but it does seem as if there has been an error in communicating and this must be addressed to ensure not only those serving post 1997 get thus pension but ALL gurkhas both serving and veteran soldiers get the same pension AND equal to that of a British soldier. Furthermore, and I get this from my mother, gurkhas should be GIVEN British citizenship for FREE IMMEDIATELY. I'm tired of hearing some of my gurkha friends saying they have to apply. This isnt right at all. To apply and answer those questions to obtain citizenship, I'm british born and bred and I couldn't answer all of those questions correctly! Just writing this makes me made but it is motivating me to do something to help because as far as I'm concerned, Gurkhas are not only Nepalese, they are also British.

Such ignorance. If we paid, as pension, Gurkhas substantially more than the Nepalese average wage then if captured they become mercenaries and the Geneva convention allows discriminatory treatment and even prosecution according to enemy domestic law. Which could include the death penalty. Is that what we want?
@induction7895

What the hell are you even talking about? They are British army, serving Britain. What does it have to do with the average Nepalese wage?
@ukhligoogle9355

please explain what you mean ?
@cacadores3955
@cacadores3955 2 жыл бұрын
The Geneva Convention says mercenaries should be treated by the norms of law but doesn't stipulate they need be treated like other POWs. So they can be harshly prosecuted by domestic law as anyone would who kills one of your nationals. Even given the death penalty. So are Gurkhas mercenaries? They're not British. Other international conventions say a mercenary is a soldier who earns substantially more that they could reasonably expect in their own country. So yes: if we pay them too much or promise them too much in a pension, and they are captured in war, a foreign power could lawfully execute them.

@@induction7895 If they are paid much more than they could reasonably expect in their own country then they can be designated "mercenaries" under international law, tried under domestic law for murder and executed. Happy?
@induction7895
@induction7895 2 жыл бұрын
@@cacadores3955 1. Gurkhas are not mercenaries. 2. If they are captured in war, they are expected to be treated as a British soldier would. 3. To come to the reality, they are paid equally today. And in the past, they were not paid less because of the kindness of heart.
