Hi there and thank you for your suggestions. I made the Karri top from Mood Society as my SewFrugal23 entry. I made it in a very lightweight and very slippery fabric- the French seams were fun! 😮. It turned out well though and I’ll be making it again in a nice drapey viscose next time. Thank you for your ideas and vlogs. 😀

@@JanineSews Pins - loads of them! Take your time and, as you’re sewing, keep rechecking that nothing has shifted. I’ve made another now in a red drapey viscose which was also slippery to sew! Good luck.

Right off the bat, I love what you said about sunk cost in stash fabric. Neither do I keep a large stash around. Have been to too many estate sales with piles of fabric that, quite frankly, was so old it was rotten. This is one reason sew frugal is such a good thing. Such smart ideas, such wisdom.
@JanineSews
@JanineSews Жыл бұрын
Exactly! I went to an estate sale a few years ago and it was just so sad to see two rooms full of fabric that the person loved enough to buy but then they just sat there unused. Faded, dusty, forgotten.

Are you thinking about trying anything? Yesterday I took a good look at different pictures of the Mood Karri top and it has seaming, sort of like a peplum, and I think that might add some more shape.

Great patterns, excellent presentation! Hello from Massachusetts! I don't often comment, but I would like to mention that should you pursue the knit top with the bishop sleeves, check the sleeve balance at the bicep. On the version that I printed, when the sleeve is folded along the vertical grainline, it does not align perpendicular at the underarm. It was my 3rd pattern issue in a row, so I didn't take any further action than to just toss it out.
@JanineSews
@JanineSews Жыл бұрын
Hi Tina! Thanks so much for watching and for commenting about the pattern. This is something I wouldn't think about checking - so you have educated me. Do you think this would be more or less noticeable in different types of fabric? There are many intricacies of fit and drafting that I need to learn more about.

Many good suggestions here, Janine! I really want to try some of the Mood patterns. (Btw, a marmeluke was a kind of semi-long, often balloon shaped, underwear that ladies used in the 1800s. There were different styles, but they often had a lace part on the bottom that would sometimes show underneath the skirt. The shape of the arm on the pattern you suggested from Mood looks like the shape of the marmeluke underwear, and I guess that is why they called it that..:))

@@JanineSews Well, I was thinking of upcycling an old tablecloth and just using a top I have as the pattern pieces, but not sure I can avoid a couple of holes in the fabric. I need a few t-shirts, so I am thinking about the French Navy Stellan Tee or the Galaxy top. Would really love to make something from Mood, though, and your video inspired me.

I loved several of the patterns that you found but none can be used for a fabric that I must have had since the 90's that I want to turn into a summer jacket. I will have to see if I can find a free jacket or coatigan pattern that I can use as I would love to have a go at the SewFrugal'23.

Cindy, you just need to post a picture of what you make on Instagram - on or before March 31. If you don't like posting your face, you can either take the photo without your head, or you can do a flat lay of your clothes. (Lay them on the floor in an 'artistic' way & take a picture from above 😁)

I notice you have fabric mart fabrics. I live on the west coast of Canada and really only have fabricland as a shop. What do you think of the fabric art quality and shipping costs.
@JanineSews
@JanineSews Жыл бұрын
Kristine, I lived in the U.S. for several years so shopped at Fabric Mart then. I bought once or twice from Canada but the shipping and fees are just so high because of the weight of fabric. There are a lot of good options in Canada although none as inexpensive as Fabric Mart. Once place that I've been watching lately is Our Social Fabric in Vancouver. Much of their fabric is donated so it's a mix of deadstock (like Fabric Mart) and things from individual stashes. It's definitely worth taking a look there. If you're close to Vancouver, they do have a storefront that is open from time to time. I'm thinking of doing a future video on fabric and sewing stores that I've found in Canada. (And apologies for the very slow response. ❤️)
