Wrong time to take the bus. All highways are under construction. We literally have to cut hills / mountains to make roads. Process of development. But it's quite an adventure too. Off-road travelling.

@@harikafle8473 I think you live under the rock & don't know what's going in the country. Those roads were in construction for more than 6 months. Everyone who travels knows that. And they always advise not to go by bus unless you enjoy off-road travelling.

This is what travel is all about. Not always ideal, yet you are experiencing what the locals go through. Respect for travelling this way, as I do the same when I am in the Philippines, jeepneys and trikes for the win lol. It's always the best way to really experience a country.

kathmandu to pokhara back in 1997 used to take 6 hours bus ride but now because of construction of the road it is taking 11 hours including the stopover in few places...as you said in the next 2 years road will be nicer and cleaner...

Did this trip in the 1980s, no luxury coaches then it was an old bus, and a old rag stuffed on top of the petrol cap, (hoping his breaks were looking better). A driver I felt was on a suicide mission, had to ask him to slow down when he was on mountain bends, didn't help either, thought it was my last journey ever on earth, but still alive to tell the tale.

Its monsson season, almost landslide on roads every day between pokhara and ktm. Constrution will be only after monsoon (after 2 months). Most road going under construction for expansion this year. Tunnels being build, New airports NIghd and fast track construction. MOst complete in 2-5 years. Landslides will continue .

Do not take decision too early. The road is Bumpy because the road is under construction & it is expanding to four lane. After two years the story & visibility both would be different.

Sorry guys.. Right now it's the middle of highway expansion and you have to face this. But assuring you, you will forget this all in pokhara journey. Pokhara is worthwhile this journey.

It is in developmental stage so it might have difficulties as you know its hard to build mountains in hills and mountains and it takes long time also… Moreover i would like to add one thing : Difficult roads often take you to beautiful destiny

I also went to pokhara just like 2 months ago or something actually, and it was a really long drive, we left at 5:30am and reached there at like 6pm, it's pretty far, so I'd say the 1100rupees/$8 price is actually really good. They're making the road right now(expanding it) so it should be better in like the next 2 years or so, and there should be less dust because a lot of that was from the construction stuff.

The prices of busstop eatery is diferent. But as of the dal bhat, there is a rule that you cant share with other person. While still you are allowed to order more and more for no extra cost.

I have traveled by land from Mumbai to Kathmandu 28 times so far. Nepali buses are very dangerous, you'll see so many broken barriers on the side of the road, this is because something has gone over, There are accidents all the time. Also you'll notice the drivers only stop at particular restaurants where you are charged more than double price for the food, the drivers get kick backs for doing this. Drivers also take alot of tobacco in their mouth which gets them high and helps them stay awake as they drive very long hours, its dangerous, I would always recommend someone taking a private taxi if you have budget for it. That way you can also choose any interesting place you like to stop at for your meals etc.

Bus services and infrastructure in Nepal are horrible. That's one of the only things that disappointed me in Nepal. Pokhara was amazing though! I wish the whole of Nepal can be developed along the same lines and the bus services are improved!

Listening to her reminds me of my SA friend from university - sounds like a mix of Welsh, Indian and something else. Was on that same route last month on a 4x4....atrocious roads and atrocious driving from most big buses and trucks. It's the main route out of Kathmandu and it's a shame that it's been allowed to get to this state.
