In this video series I will be replacing the A/C evaporator Core and Compressor. It will be 4 parts.
I was quoted around 2000 dollars to do this job. I looked up the parts at the local auto parts store and it was about 15% of the cost. I figured what could I lose if I tried it myself. If it didn't work the worst that could happen is I was out 250 and still didn't have A/C.
SolidWorks is great, but they did not sponsor this video series with a hairy shirt.

Your patience is commendable. The lord did not supply me with this virtue.

Oh, I lose patience so many times on some projects. Especially if I am trying to do anything on my Audi TT.

Great video. Thank you . I will save this for later. My 2011 is currently at the shop for replacement. At a hefty tune of 3300 bucks for the full job. This id the second time evap core has been done. The first time was done at the dealership which was a nightmare (was under warranty) had to take back 3 times. Its lasted about 3 years. "Next" time i may just do it myself. Thanks for the information

When I did my 11F150 (similar) I left two bolts with a few threads on the dash left side support. Then I got a 5 gal bucket on the passenger side. Was more than enough room to tilt it, and don't have to remove the dash (very heavy). F150 requires you really to replace the entire box but you can buy an evap aftermarket. If the temp sensor fails, you need a whole new box just for that.

Thanks for the comment, that is a good suggestion. I didn't think of doing that, but if I have to do it again on something I will definitely see if I can just swivel the dash out of the way. Thanks for the comment.

@@builditgarage Yes, i do not think it is possible to do as a 1 man repair any other way. If not for that I would have taken it to a shop. You can always get a longer bolt if you need to swing it out more but the stock bolt with a few threads was more than enough.

Why take the dash out of the truck? Couldn't you leave it dangling and get to everything needed to replace the core?

I took it out because I had to take the entire air box out. The heat box is really big and would be awkward to get to everything with the dash in the way. I didn't end up doing this job multiple times like some others, so I never got into trying to figure out how to do it quicker. Sorry.

You're correct it was not a fun job. So you have to decide: do you deal with a hot truck, do you do the job yourself, do you pay someone to do it for you, or sell the truck and get a different one. Each of those options probably has pros and cons.
