The only problem with cans is that the gauge only reads low side pressure. The high side pressure is also important. You definitely don't want to crank the low side to 50psi if you don't know where the high side pressure is. That's a great way to blow up an AC system. The Subaru Crosstrek/Impreza/Forester AC systems all have the same issue. Where the compressor will buzz loudly. And the AC will start getting warm. Common leak is at the expansion valve. Just look at where the AC lines go into the firewall. You'll see dye around there.
