We bought a house in Missouri and the house has a heat pump. Everytime it turned on the lights in the house kinda flickered and that didn't seem right to me. A couple of weeks ago we had cold weather and just last weekend the heat pump quit working. It's a Goodman unit so we called a refrigeration company that works on them. He came out Monday morning opened the outside unit and said the compressor was grounded out and one circuit breaker had tripped. So he said the unit needs replaced. I can tell you how it ran before very noisy and sounded like it was going to take off like a rocket. So yesterday he brought and installed the new one and boy is it quite. The lights in the house don't flicker anymore. Hopefully this one lasts longer than the old one cause it lasted 8 years according to the tag.

Those furnaces can be such a bear to troubleshoot. I just had to do the same kind of troubleshooting to my gas furnace. Which had two things wrong thermocouple rod somewhat common from what I understand and then the fuel valve. It wasn't actually the whole valve but it was the part that feeds the pilot light as the pilot light stop lighting. And this thing is from the 1970s early '80s and I could not find a replacement pilot light solenoid or sometimes referred to as the thermocouple rod solenoid

You would be surprised at how many HVAC companies that do not or don't care about static pressures I was talking to one of my local Trane distribution stores today and the rep that was in there said most of their newer air handlers that have variable speed blowers are being designed to automatically adjust the blower speeds for static pressures and they will limit output to no more than .07WC or less. You would be even more surprised at the number of companies that don't even know how to even check.
