I always wanted a Leica, but couldn’t afford one. Then... someone placed an ad on Facebook to buy a bunch of old cameras (tidy up the attic) for $50,- ! I recognized the red dot at the picture and bought it. And guess what... an Leica m4-p in used but fine condition. I use it currently for 3 years now. Wow! Back to basic, no lightmeter, developing film... I love it.

Thanks for this video. I have both the m4-p and the m6. They are the same except for the light meter as far as I'm concerned. It's nice having the built in meter, but I have a meter that plugs into the hot shoe on the m4 and works fine. In a lot of cases I prefer it because I can take a reading, set the exposure and put the camera to my eye, focus and take the shot.

Hi Tinkerbell. Really appreciate the comment. I also have an MP with an inbuilt meter and find it much more convenient to use quickly compared to the M4-P. This was my first talking head video and there's much more I probably should've gone into detail about the camera. I prefer being behind the lens rather than in-front of it :).

If you don't like the excessive branding the paint in the engraving can be removed easily with alcohol and a toothbrush (and painted back with enamel paint). I decided to redo the covering on my M4-P without the red dot on the front. It's glued to the body and can be removed easily too!

Very true. Although I don’t like the excessive branding it is of it’s time and I wouldn’t remove any of it. Original is better than not imo :)

nice video, I use M2 from 1964, witch also my year of birth ;-) and love it. I agree, there is no difference between the M4 and the M6, it’s just the lightmeeter and the viewfinder in the later version. I use also two M6s. The M4s are definitely the same quality like other Ms. I changed the vulkanit of my M2 because the feeling in my hand was not nice anymore. I ordered the new perfect leather in Japan for just 25€, perfect cut, selfglued. I’m really happy with the new grip in old style. Maybe a new leather will cover the red dot, one logo less.

I'll take a look at the leather covers from Japan :).

I like my M4-P too. Looks new still. I bought it used in very good condition with the older Summicron 50mm with the close-focus adapter for around £1K. Never missed a shot with it either. Tomorrow I'll receive a copy of Leica's 75mm f/2.5 from the shop. Also a steal at around £700 - new, which is a bit odd as it is the old version. It probably was found by accident when cleaning their warehouse, here in Norway. I never thought I'd be able to afford one one of Leica's 75mms, so - good times. It's the ideal focal length for me.

Awesome 👍 how is the close focus adapter? Have never used.

This was good. Swings me closer to choosing the -P over the M4 or M3

This camera is quite popular again, and so are mullets. Coincidence?

Since the camera has frame lines for 35mm, why are you using a separate viewfinder? I use the shoe for an accessory light meter from Voightlander. Much less expensive combo compared to an M6.
@bangsmash3 жыл бұрын
The finder is mostly for the 28mm lens. The camera does have 28mm frame lines, but they are hard to see when wearing glasses.

Can you only sync a Flash at 1/60s on the Leica? No faster speed?
@bangsmash3 жыл бұрын
For film Leica M cameras the flash sync is 1/50.

I humbly suggest that videos do not need music. If you're going to use music then please consider something gentle and relaxing. (What is with this baby voice music anyway?) Otherwise I enjoyed your essay. I'm going to now check out the rest of your channel.

I prefer black and white for 35mm. Slide film goes in the Pentax 6x7 and it produces lovely photographs.

There are plenty of other gear reviews out there. You can even just read the product brochure if you want to keep it clinical and to the point. My vote is to keep the avocados and the alarm test. Adds a bit of personality to the video and I appreciate that.
