Thank you! I bought an leaf cutting a year ago. The plant has (finally!) produced a second leaf . . . after being in soil for a year . . . the new leaf is extremely small & has no fenestration. Will be trying a repot with different soil & fertilizer & a nice climbing pole to give it an anchor. Maybe a stern talking to as well: "Your all green sister isn't this fussy, young lady." ;-)
@Nenyukih4 жыл бұрын
In my experience monsteras do this thing where they spent their time growing roots until they fill the pot, and THEN they start growing leaves. So in my opinion don't repot just now. You have been waiting for a year... And now that the plant is finally growing leaves, if you disturb it, it's going to have to concentrate in root production again. You awaited a lot, why disturbed now that you are seeing results?

Omg i feel so much more educated and confident after watching your fantastic video! 👏 👏 👏 👏 this was amazing. I do have a question about buying cuttings. Does leaf size matter? Like if you buy a top cutting big leaf would the next leaf be just as big? Would it be okay to buy smaller less fenestrated leaf cuttings? And how long till you usually see new growth/leaf after buying? Like when you said rooting faster, do you mean like to it reaches a certain length/ amount of roots? Thank you again for this amazing vid!

I received such a monster as a gift from my friend from Ufa, it's in Russia (I'm from Russia) 10 years ago. It was a lot of cuttings and branches with very good variegateness. I have experienced a lot with this plant, now the problem is all new shoots grow absolutely white. In different pots! But I applied fertilizer with nitrogen and everything was fine! Good luck to all!

Hi can you please show how you water your varigated monstera
@Nemain_4 жыл бұрын
I have a little var. Monstera and it just sits on my Dinnertable. The humidity is 40-50% and it's doing so well! I kind of understand the higher humidity need for more finnicky Anthuriums but for Monsteras I've never had a problem. Only the all white leaves on the var. Syngonium go brown sometimes, but most of the time right before the whole leaf dies off.

Loving your video! I keep choping my half-moon aurea because it keeps producing green leaves :( so, yeah, let the buyer beware
@ThePlantsMeow4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Look for a variegated auxiliary bud and cut above that. Was the half moon just a mid cutting? A lot of times sellers don't pay attention to the bud, which can be all green. A cut should only be made there a bud is variegated.
@chloetoner29824 жыл бұрын
Just another thing with aureas to look out for, aureas can take even a few weeks to show their variegation in the new leaves! They show it as they harden, so they come out looking green and then show the yellow as they harden. When have you been cutting them? Because they might have been variegated and just didn’t show it yet. They also like higher light to show the variegation.

I just found your channel and am a new subscriber! I've had my variegated monstera albo for 3 months now and it came as a rooted cutting. The roots are the only part of the plant in soil so it's not stable at all. Do you recommend I support it with a pole to create some form of security for the plant? The leaves it's produced are quite small and I think based on your video that may be the problem. It's real "loosey goosey"! Help!

Hi Ella! I haven't been watching your Anthurium content because I don't have any plans to collect them anytime soon. Now that I have said that, I really liked this content, especially clearing up the whole large form/small form issue. You may remember my green one in the hanging basket that I sent the picture to you last fall. I had been thinking the reason I rarely get 2nd row of fenestrations is that I haven't used a moss pole. Now I also wonder if she is a small form. I guess time will tell. You take all the time you need for yourself. I hope you will be back but you do what you need to do. If you ever need an older gal pal you have me on face book. Love you too Ella!

Thanks for the great video!! Very helpful! I’ve bought two albos about two months ago and both started developing brown tips about a week ago! It’s rapidly increasing and I’m very worried 🙁 They are in terracota pots and it’s very warm where I live now (about 82F/28C) and the humidity is fine (50-60%). I also moved them closer to the window and I don't see any pests. I think I may have underwater them but I water them 3 days ago and they are still browing everyday and very rapidly... I don’t know what to do!!!
@ThePlantsMeow4 жыл бұрын
Variegated plants are very prone to browning because the sections without chlorophyll are beneficial to the plant. You need ideal conditions for it to not brown and even then some browning will happen - especially if you have large sections of white/yellow. The spread can be hard to stop once it starts. You can cut above the section that is browning to help. Underwatering, lack of good lighting, and insufficient nutrition all contribute to this. I would say to be more diligent about watering on time and move much closer to a window and maybe even buy a grow light. What kind of fertilizer are you using?
@ochiiio4 жыл бұрын
@@ThePlantsMeow I'm still learning how to water properly since I'm new with variegated monsteras! I'll definitely put them under a grow light! I'm using an all purpose fertilizer (the brand name is Compo 7-3-6) but I'm searching for a better one... Which one do you use?

Hi there! I love your channel; just found it today! Hi, love your videos. quick question, what can i do for an anthurium regale that's lost all its leaves? please help i really don't want it ti die.
@ThePlantsMeow4 жыл бұрын
I would put it in a very large ziplock bag and blow air into it. Hopefully the humidity quickens the process for a new leaf to grow. Also, placing it inside a humid space like an indoor greenhouse if you don’t have a bag.

So to be clear, my albo cutting that was not a top cutting will only ever grow the smaller leaves? I hope i heard that wrong...

Nice info! You may not want to drink too much RO water since it is acidic. Just a friendly FYI :)
@ThePlantsMeow2 жыл бұрын
Acidic is only bad because it can expose you to pollutants and metals. RO actually filters these out so that is not an issue. It is just “pure” water with a PH of 7 and tastes super clean. The drawback is a lack of minerals, which you just have to make sure you supplement with the foods you eat. :)

So is the variegation completely random or it’s affected by the variegation of the mother plant?
@ThePlantsMeow4 жыл бұрын
For the most part it is random. The mother plant will determine the type of variegation (sectoral or marbled) and over time the stem will either grow more white or green. Even a plant in lower light can still grow more white but the chance of browning is higher in that situation. Also, the auxiliary bud on a cutting is also dependent on variegation. If the bud is in an all green spot on the stem then it will produce a green stem. You can’t change this. But you can cut above another auxiliary bud that shows better variegation.
