Amber Rose comes from a self hating white and mixed Cape Verdean family in Philly. She said her mother and her uncles aunt were raised not to know their CV culture on purpose because her grandparents wanted their children and grandchildren to be raised white Italian. Amber Rose said in Vlad interviews that she was raised Italian and her family carried themselves like Italians too. She is not even biracial her mother's family are multiracial CVerdeans. The mother must be maybe 35%Afro in terms of ancestry. She looks like a dark skin Sicilian. The family NEVER claimed black or considered themselves black but rather Italian

Please Mays can you talk about the newest scandal between Nara Smith and Onezwa, Nara Smith is stealing content and style from smaller (darker) black women. It’s a pattern we can see often, are dark skin women only good as a blueprint and never the one who can benefits from it?
@fruitesther5 ай бұрын
The fact that many black South Africans are trying to downplay Onezwa is shocking... The same ones who camp in Nara's comments section begging her to acknowledge South Africa since she was born there
@cherrytracy5 ай бұрын
@@fruitesther A lot of dark skin women wants to be represented by lighter skinned women. Look how much the glorified Meghan Markel. I was embarrassed 🤣🥲
@athenax4 ай бұрын
Nara Smith didn't steal from Onezwa 😂 she made boba tea and mozzarella none of which belong to South Africans , secondly where was all this support for Kuhle Jita? Kuhle Jita the dark skinned south African woman Onezwa harassed for "stealing" her salt recipe? Y'all want Onezwa to be a victim so bad even when the facts show that Nara never stole, I'm glad people are supporting Nara, she isn't your biracial light skinned supervillain 😂, sorry babe, and she didn't steal her style from Onezwa, who didn't speak softly at all, if anything, Onezwa stole her style from Kuhle but y'all didn't care because it was dark skinned on dark skinned crime

I hope it's apparent that Amber Rose is not all biracial women. Maria Carey collaborated with Black artists despite her label's negative attitude. Tracy Ellis Ross has worked on shows that center Black successful women. Biracial women can be proper allies, some just choose to be rotten.

This in a nutshell is the issue with Tyla. I feel like she is being pushed by the media on black Americans and those who bring up their concerns about her seeking black support while proudly stating how black she is not, are villainized for admiting their reservations. I believe she is talented but I'm tired of every black adjacent celebrity being elevated over people who wholeheartedly embrace their blackness and are willing to ride and die for the culture. The amount of verbal abuse aimed at specifically black Americans who don't blindly choose to accept her is insane. The fact that Tyla after the fall of apartheid in SA still rather be coloured instead of black tells you alot about how much privilege is attached to that categorization particularly in her home country. The issue is not how she identifies but why. It's about a bigger convo about how our communities are still infused with anti-blackness and how many of our racially ambiguous brothers and sisters and even some of our dark-skinned brothers and sisters continue to be quiet and complicit in perpetuating anti-black ideologies. Also how many non-black people in SA benefitted from their adjacency to whiteness. Many people are aware how in the Indian/Asian communities covet whitness and are very anti-black. I read a comment on a post that asked why if she is actually mostly of indian descent she is not going to indian stations to promote. IMO it's simple she's too black, black Americans are trendsetters for the whole world ànd she wants that rubber stamp because whites here might like her but they'd never elevate her over the likes of Miley and Taylor, and most importantly she wants that American money. We are told to stop inviting everyone with a little rhythm to the cookout, protect the culture, support those who support you and when we do people get nasty.
@MK-hh1vo5 ай бұрын
But the issue with Tyla is, like it or not, *she looks Black* so she can't partake of the "privilege" of ambiguity unless she declares that she's "other".
@Key-Key4445 ай бұрын
I’m not a fan of Tyla. She’s pretty yes, but I think we’re tired of seeing your typical pretty pretty “light skinned” put on a pedestal, shoved down our throats and kicking darker skinned women down after everyone has raised them up. Then you get called “jealous” or “mad.”😂😂😂 🥱 We don’t want it. Give us “Aqyila” or somebody 😅
@MIA-fq1di5 ай бұрын
Tyla saying she isn't black but Coloured has got nothing to do with her thinking she's better than blk ppl 🤦🏿♀️ that's her race in South Africa she knows in her country she isn't considered a black woman, She literally acknowledges her black ancestry all the time but she knows she isn't blk

First time watching your video and i really enjoyed it. You explained it well. Some people and act like leaches and take and take until they find another source. I think our society is becoming more individualistic to the point where a lot of people are just looking at how a situation benefits them. Not realizing that we need connection too and that only happens when we listen and care for others.

The movies referenced in the video were part of a series of documentaries that were always meant to be part of a set of films. I believe Bill Duke was the director for both. When he came up with the idea, there was always going to a "Light Girls" movie. It's not like the film was done in reaction to the first documentary. For a time, I believe there was talk of a third film in this series. But that third film never happened.

Just bcuz Amber got treated as a light skin trophy arm candy does not mean she was accepted in the wider stance. She was always "someone's girlfriend" she was never just appreciated for who she was by herself. You're giving a COMPLETE excuse to misogyny "for some reason who black men pour into...blah blah blah is who we all pour into" HELLOOOOO That's the man as validation for HER existence. When Kanye dumped her y'all was on Kanye's side BECAUSE he is a (famous) Man. MAYBE YOU are too young to remember ALL THE HATE Amber got from black women once she split with Kanye?

Light Skin was horrible Don’t get me wrong as a light skinned person I was picked on/bullied terribly about my color by darker Black people and I don’t like how coloris is discussed among us BUT that doc wasn’t necessary. Her being included when she staunchly expressed that she’s not Black was a hard side eye. The other biracial women that were included are ones that identified as Black.

Blackness and/or the Black community is how many people and entities have gained popularity. For example, in the early days of the FOX network, many of its shows appealed to and featured black people...Martin, Living Single, New York Undercover, and In Living Color. When it had gained a decent foothold and was competitive with the big three networks, most of its content became less Black-oriented.

She's a hypocrite, a wannabe, someone who desperately wants to be accepted by anyone who'll have her. I have a mixed cousin who is a proud member of a certain ethnic community that she has absolutely no biological connection to. So I kinda get it. But at the same time, I just really do not care about Amber Rose's emotional problems. I'm really tired of these pseudo celebrities who have absolutely nothing to offer besides public tantrums and drama. Like go create some art, go to therapy. Do something smh
