I work in Seattle area As a union carpenter. And it's the same issue you're describing here in Portland

Sadly, I think we have more suffering coming. But I still think we can rebound.

Columbus, Ohio is a mix. Downtown has been being developed for 15 years with strong population growth. They pushed a lot of shelters out of downtown so homelessness is spread around city, which may be worse because now the entire city feels full of homeless instead of high concentration around central shelters.

What crazy outside of the Portland metro area. You don't see as much homeless because there aren't as many resources. It's wild in portland. You walk about open-air drug markets.

My fear is that portland isn't seattle or L.A. their are better options on the West Coast. I think safety is a big issue. If you want to see Amazon become a 3 trillion dollar company, this is only helping.

I never worked on the building, but I was given a tour of the building. It's amazing from what I've seen.

I guess downtown Ottawa, Canada is a bit different as there is so much government contracts it just keeps things going to the point they can't keep up with the work. Apparently at least 25 more years minimum of steady work for the Carpenters union local 93 in Ottawa.

25 more years that's wild. That kind of security has to be nice.

So many old government buildings that need major improvements. They can't keep up. Even better for the masons as all the buildings are neo gothic still and they need the reall dying breed stone masons.@@unscriptedwithantonio

@seanhaddad178 That is one thing I've seen in portland, too. The other buildings are so beautiful, but it takes a master to maintain those buildings. You're right that skill is a dying art form.
