"One, chutney is delicious," well that's true 😂once again, I love these kinds of videos! Cooking and books, my two favorites!

Thanks 😍 they’re kind of niche and hard to make, but I have so much fun with them!

This book is amazing and your review is fantastic. It makes for an enthraling read, I’d love to see a theatre adaptation. I am not very familiar with the historical figures so can’t judge how accurate it is, but it almost sounds like a dark commedy as you say. And the way it’s written makes it compelling and difficult to put down. Hope you enjoyed your chutney!

An adaptation would be amazing… I wonder if there’s a movie? I need to look into that!

I love watching you cook and talk to me about books! This book is not something I am currently interested in reading, but I loved hearing your take on it and oh mangooooes. Looks delicious!

Honestly, if it was interesting to watch even if you’re not interested in the book that almost feels like more of a success? I hope that makes sense and thanks for watching 💜

This was such a great video! I'm kind of amazed that you're able to focus on both cooking and talking about the book at the same time lol :)

Thanks! This type of video definitely takes by far the most planning of anything I make, and there are definitely a lot of outtakes 😂

ok first up, i really like the lighting in the kitchen. it makes everything pop! and i love it. i think there's a bit of a room echo but it's not distracting. so if you want to do more videos standing in the kitchen, you should do that. Secondly, fun fact: the kind of chutney you're making is really a British Asian thing. The "chutney" we make is very different. Which is not to say there's anything wrong with what you're doing. I like mango chutney! I just wouldn't worry about it being super authentic to Pakistan because... likely nobody in Pakistan knows what you're talking about 😂 coming to the book, i read this book when it was first published and i remember being in love with it but I haven't read it since and i kinda want to now, listening to you. what you said about it being a tightrope between terrifying and hilarious is the best description of it. Also, I started laughing when you were talking about "no respect for the memory of Zia" because my Pakistani friends loathe him so much, I'd say Hanif downplayed it. I don't remember much of the rape - i might have skimmed it because i have no tolerance whatsoever for sexual violence but iirc it was included for specific reasons because that scenario is a real world one.

Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad the lighting was good, and thanks for pointing out the room echo. I want to get something to make my audio better but the kitchen is the only room in my apartment with light so sorting out my lighting was a priority 😂 And thanks for sharing about chutneys, this is the info I’m after! It was really interesting reading this with no background knowledge! Like it really wasn’t clear to me if Hanif was sharing popular sentiment about Zia or if this was pretty controversial - from the sound of things much more the first. And I think the reason the rape section was so disturbing was because it did feel super real so I totally get skimming over it. It does totally make sense in the story though, and at least from my POV adds a whole other layer to the terrifyingness of Zia and the other people in power.

@@RosieCockshutt ok i generally not to give advice because nobody likes a know it all but you and I are similar enough I think that you might not mind it - get a lapel mic or plug in your airpods which is what I do. it'll still pick up room noise but it'll cut down significantly. also, check out this link - he's a friend of mine who does a lot of cooking at home, most of it a bit advanced but the thing is, his recipes work. i did a search for chutneys and there's even a cranberry one, lol: myannoyingopinions.com/?s=chutney&submit=Search re: Hanif, i don't have the patience to type it all out but if we ever hang out, remind me and i'll tell you all about it lol

@@AmritabytheBook I absolutely don't mind advice, and that was super helpful! I was planning on getting a mic that mounts on top of my camera, but your suggestion made me go down a rabbit hole and realise that a lapel mic would probably suit my needs way better. And let's be real, I wear black shirts in at least 50% of my videos, so it would barely be visible anyways :P Also they seem to be way cheaper and I can upgrade that sooner, which is good because I've started noticing some camera noise in the background while editing. And I can't wait to watch all of your friend's videos! A Cranberry Chutney sounds like the PERFECT addition to my December eating plans! As for Hanif - fair!

Hey, you have Food Network-like tools! They aren't all mismatched like mine! I did not expect this book to be about a rl incident with political ramifications. The title sounded like a food memoir. I've been reading several of those lately. I'm glad the mango chutney turned out well! I recently botched up an orange sponge cake and stood there laughing hysterically 'cause I couldn't believe that happened.
@RosieCockshutt4 жыл бұрын
They would look far more mismatched if I were doing a more complex recipe 😂 I really didn’t expect it either! I had to keep stopping and googling to figure out how much was fact and how much fiction. It does sound like it would be a great food memoir! What ones have you been loving lately? Sorry about your sponge cake, I hope your next bake goes better!

@@RosieCockshutt I finished Dave Chang's memoir, Eat A Peach, this week, and I'm currently listening to Cork Dork, by Bianca Bosker. I baked oatmeal raisin cookies yesterday. They turned out hideous, but they taste fucking amazing.
