@Skuzzy21Ай бұрын
1:20:20 The answer to this question isn't actually accurate. Everyone is technically correct. The phase that a gas transitions to also depends on the pressure. If we assume atmospheric pressure then Marques is correct that gaseous oxygen will condense into a liquid. If the pressure was lower (like one tenth of atmosphere) then gaseous oxygen would transition directly to a solid and David/Andrew would be correct. A good example of this is dry ice (Solid CO2). It transitions directly from a solid to a gas at atmospheric pressure. If the pressure is sufficiently high then the oxygen would transition directly into McDonalds so that also should have been an acceptable answer.

1:21:17 It's actually not as dumb or obvious as Marques points it out to be. Oxygen, and any other solid element, can sublime, i.e. convert directly from solid to gas and skipping the liquid phase under specific temperature + pressure combos. So the water analogy is not as common sense as one might think.
@Manganellia1Ай бұрын
That's what I was saying! (But for real, thanks for this)
@vkroneАй бұрын
Totally fair - however, the way the question was stated there was really only one answer I guess because boiling describes the phase change at boiling point from liquid to gas, right. but it’s true that probably most people outside of science or science-adjacent aren’t aware of that cool phenomenon
