So for those who are thinking of picking up this game, let me give a few disclaimers. • The main Books (Survivor/GM Guide) are simply NOT formatted well. It will be difficult to piece together how everything works. My advice: get your hands on the “Intro Manual Booklet” and/or “Starter Rulebook”. These present the basic rules in a FAR more user friendly format. • If you can find it, the “2nd Annual Volume Booklet” has a pretty detailed breakdown of a game session that is extremely helpful as an example of play. • There is not much online aid for this game tbh. It’s not a dead game, they still are releasing new game aids such as cards and tokens, but it’s very much a no one’s holding your hands kind of game. • The mechanics can get a little clunky if played straight by the book. I’d modify the game pacing to fit your table. For example, the game says GM should roll opponent checks. This is WAY too much dice rolling imo. I only have the players roll, and I use opponents to resolve success or failure narratively. Simplification of the rules is highly recommended in this game, even by the creators. This game has A LOT to offer a table, but it requires at least one person to really dig into the rules and cobble together the system, and I blame this squarely on the disjointed nature of the main books. This game is the most detailed Zombie Survival TTRPG out there I believe, but the books let it down. Good luck.

Not a fan of Relics & Rarities. I liked the DM I thought she did a fine job but the players were just terrible and the show was just over-produced....which just made the entire thing seem very fake and scripted for lack of a better word. I got the feeling that nothing done was spontaneous or ad-lib which I think that element needs to be there even if it makes the show feel a little more "scuffed" that is kind of the point.

So... there IS a potential here. A bit too focused on props and not so much on the roleplaying, but it IS an action setting, so that's to be expected. But... the two reasons that makes me think I wont be coming back for episode two are: 1) The "you die, you are out" policy. While this is fun for single session, this is an absolute dealbreaker in campaign play. You can NOT have out of game consequences for in game actions. The cardinal rule should always be, that everybody is allowed to play on. 2) You didn't introduce your fracking players! I mean, wtf? How disrespectful is that? Not even in the comment section.

While normally I'd agree that "You die, you are out" doesn't work well when your just playing with your friends, this is a show. So its not going to work quite the same as a small game among friends at home.

@@AquilaGuard Actually, that may be the bigger problem for me. That it is a show before it is a game. I think the success of critical roll is mainly that you get to look in on a game of friends, where you get familiar with the players as well as the characters. This show and R&R and LA by Night all feel so staged. While the production value is high you are never really sure who the players are or what their relations are. For all we know, they are hired actors. It certainly feels like that on LAbN at times with all the extra characters they bring in. The main characters become secondary to the show. And as a roleplayer that feels unraletabel to me. I mean, which roleplayer would ever join a group where character death meant leaving the group? But actors would accept that as a gig.
