Hi Elyse! I'm not normally a commenter, but I'm a huge fan of your authenticity and open-book take on life's struggles. I'm currently on my 46th run around the sun, and the more runs I go, the more I realize being emotional is who I am. I still get a twinge of discomfort from crying in front of others, but the more I do it, the more I begin to feel, "This is me. Deal with it, people." You should too! Just wanted to return the "you're-not-alone" vibe you give out to the world. Cry on, girl! Cry on! 😭😭😭

You probably won’t ever see this comment but on the off chance that you do I just wanted to say that your efforts writing and sharing “Unhinged” were not a waste. I can only speak for myself but the lyrics are very relatable, your soulful singing touched my soul and spoke healing to me the moment I heard it. I really needed that.

OMG, thank you for showing how to properly over-under a cable. You are 100% right that it’s the first lesson given to every intern. Watching you roll the cable under your elbow was making me *cringe* and then I really relaxed when you showed a proper over-under. Also, idk if those were actual C-414’s, but those are my favorite mics in the world. Keep going. You are amazing.

As the wife of an audio/video guy whom I regularly help on jobs, thank you for that lesson! I thought I sucked so badly at rolling up cables the way he said to because I'm a lefty - but he didn't ever show me the 1 turn of the cable, OR back handed positioning! He's going to be so impressed with my improved cord coiling skills! And don't date anyone in a band is advice I wish I could have given my younger self too :)

Elyse, I wanted to let you know I bought two sets of the Support Deck from the Odd Daughters Paper Company-one as a birthday gift to myself & one for my older daughter’s upcoming birthday. She visited yesterday. Loves them as do I. Highly recommend. True stories: she also picked, “Write a letter to your younger self” & loved that idea; plans to do. The 1st card I picked was “Start Moving/Exercising” (can’t recall which it states). 2nd card instructed me in what I knew was a yoga pose to lay on the floor with butt against wall & legs up against wall. I had to laugh so hard bc if I did that pose I’d have to call the paramedics to get me up off the floor since I’m severely physically debilitated & can’t push myself up from my knees after doing a position like that. I can barely move, except some minor physical therapy exercises mainly from bed. Definitely can’t exercise per se. Aside from those two cards w/the Universe taking aim at me, I checked out all the cards & learned some excellent techniques. My deck is beside me now so I can use when needed, which is often. Wrote to creators on social media giving you credit for your link. Katie was thrilled! BTW, when I gave my elder daughter her deck I needed to point out that she is not my “Odd Daughter” so she wouldn’t take offense. Actually she is, but in a good way 60% of the time-haha. Love that they include what each card does to help relieve stress & anxiety bc sometimes the card itself can leave you a wee baffled. TFS this deck. Have lots of decks but not this one, so many, many thanks to you & the Odd Daughters.

Rolling XLR cables is the same way I was taught as a baby EMT to roll the ECG cables on the LP-12 cardiac monitor. After I became a paramedic I taught all my EMT partners that weren't already doing it this way, and every trainee that worked with. It *drastically* reduces the chances of cable tangles, and leaves the monitor leads ready to deploy without thinking about it when the seconds count the most.

Please don't apologise for crying. Your emotional response to things is unique to your life experiences and only you get to decide what's worth crying over. Also, I tend to tear up when I see other people happy-crying and I find it kinda hilarious that I'm shedding tears over someone I didn't know existed 24 hours ago getting gifted a mic.

EVERYONE should learn how to properly over-under a cable. My Daddy, who ran sound, taught me when I was young. When I took recording classes (later switched to film and video degree), I was the one teaching folks to over-under. When I worked at a local PBS station, I taught the new ones. Then at an AV company, again teaching the new ones. Sharing the beauty that is a properly coiled cable should be done by all who possess the knowledge. My best is 450' of cable on one hand/arm. I just couldn't get that last stinkin' 50'. Thank you for spreading the cable gospel!!!!

And now this is the first KZbin video I've watched of yours, and I laughed my ass off. But I also cried with you. Because I know what it's like to receive a sign like that and it can be overwhelming. I think what you are doing is 100% what you are supposed to be doing, and you should 100% share your music with the world because you are great at it. I'm not just a stranger telling you this to make you feel good about yourself. I'm an outsider seeing someone with the same insecurities as myself that needs to hear that they are good enough.
