I was raised on a farm in eastern North Carolina, USA. Father and both grandfathers were “tabacca” (hahaha) farmers. It’s sad to see the demonization of today’s farms. I’m 51. Started smoking a pipe last year. My father smoked a pipe when he was in the navy, through college, then while on the farm. He told me stories of being in port in England seeing the people drinking and smoking pipes in the pubs. That’s how he got started. I just wanted to share a story with you since you share stories with us on KZbin. I enjoy your channel and your Tolkien vibe. Your room looks very cozy. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours from a loving cousin across the pond.

One of the reasons pipe smokers weigh there words , is the little puffs they take between them , it gives one time to think what one is saying.

Richard I believe that if we can afford to, we should each build up a substantial cellar as the control freaks will or may ban tobacco in the not too distant future. I also learned to smoke a pipe from Mutton Chop Piper. I'm very glad to see more and more of us keeping the pipe smoking 'hobby' alive.

I learnt a lot from Muttonchop Piper when I first started with a pipe - he is legendary 😊 amazing chap - that Kilner jar is spot on for loose tobacco - enjoying Samuel Gawith blends a lot at the moment as a UK piper supporting a small UK manufacturer 😊 yes big news about STG taking over Macbaren and Sutliff.

It's the anti-smoking lobby in Westminster that keep tobacco prices so high, this has killed so much of British tobacco, basically.

I have, over the last 6 months, tried quite a few different tobaccos, and the one that I have enjoyed the most and repurchased is St Bruno. It's a easy mellow smoke with a pleasant after taste, nice with a cream coffee. Excellent choice. Thanks for another entertaining video.

There used to be a company in the uk called the Tilty Tobacco Company. They would cure tobacco from growers who had allotment gardens. The growers would harvest and dry their tobacco, label it with their address and send it in to the Tilty Tobacco Company. When they had enough weight of tobacco they would make huge square stacks of it and allow it to cure naturaly. The tobacco would build up heat and ferment out all the chorophill similar to a compost heap. The aromas would begin to develop and the stacks would be turned to allow air flow and an even curing. All done naturaly. I started smoking a pipe 35yrs ago and i tried growing my own tobacco. Sadly that same year The Tilty Tobacoo Company had to close due to a lack of tobacco being sent to them so as to not have enough to create a large enough stack to produce the natural curing effect.

Rub the flake evenly fine put a pipe full in the center of your palm and rotate the pipe gently on top clockwise and it will magically worm itself into the bowl then tamp it so you can draw easily with no air noise and it is a nice even burn because its all connected

Richard, it’s great to see you enjoying and publicising the joys of pipe smoking. Mutton Chops is great; watch his videos on “the breath method” if you really want to get the best out of your baccy. I only discovered it this year and wow, what a difference it makes! One can taste all the subtle flavours within the tobacco and believe me, once you get to grips with it, it’s like a revelation. Also, you seem to like traditional, quirky things so, do yourself a favour and try some Gawith Hogarth “Brown No.4 Lakeland Twist”. You’ll need a very sharp knife (I use a cigar cutter) to cut thin coins. Rub them out and smoke in a SMALL pipe until you know your Vitamin N tolerance. Sip slowly and enjoy pure untopped or cased tobacco, but treat with respect or it can floor you. Revor Plug is another great baccy too, originally a Co-Op own label blend. Like with flakes, part of the pleasure of pipe smoking is the ritual tobacco preparation and plugs and twists elevate this to a different level and I seriously think it would be something you’d love so give it a try.

IKEA sells cheap Mason jars, but I try to only have 2 or 3 different tins on the go at a time, so I don't really use jars. They do work well for aging if you keep them in a cool and dark place.

In 1971 they stopped people growing tobacco in the UK. My friends dad was going to get a £100 pound fine if he did not pull the tobacco leaf out the ground. The same friend was growing tobacco leaf in his garden but the slugs got to it first.

If you have a parker you essentially have a dunhill as parker invented the system and dunhlll owned it when he bought the company and changed the name but save on the high cost of a dunhill. Dont keep your flake in a tin without the greaseproof paper or it dries too quickly

Tobacco hasn't been grown in Australia since 2006. You can grow your own but not without the appropriate excise licence(red tape). So it goes to the to hard basket. It also costs $1600 a 1kg to import. So the pinch is on to stop smoking here In Australia and has been for years and its very hard to get any descent tobacco.
