A chat with Anna O'Byrne (Love Never Dies Australia)

Anna O'Byrne's performance as 'Christine' in the Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Love Never Dies' has garnered critical acclaim and won over audiences in Melbourne and Sydney.
Theatrepeople.com.au's Tristan Lutze sat down with Anna between shows to discuss the show, her role and whether or not she'd fall for the Phantom's charms herself.

Juliana Perruso You can hear it even when she sings though - her voice is so rich! She could almost be a mezzo , except for those crazy B-flats out of nowhere in the title aria... then it's like "Oooookay yep definite soprano. " 😀

Saw love never dies this Saturday (28/1/12) Anna is an utterly sublime Christine and she and Ben Lewis as the Phantom definitely deserved the standing ovation they got at the show I was at, they were just perfection, so thank you theatrepeople for giving us this little snippet of her experience with Love Never Dies.

I also love how Anna puts emphisis on the importance of Christine being a mother. Sierra didn't really go into detail about that. It's strange to think she is not a mother herself. She seesm to just adore children. :)

Well, a huge point in this show is that Gustave is everything to Christine - her maternal side is out in full force in LND. The only reason she even agrees to sing for him is that he threatens her child. So it's a very good thing that Anna sees that! :)

He was such a sweetheart! Very modest and chatty. Lots of cuddles from everyone, and it's always so nice that they take the time to talk and sign and things like that. Stage door-ing is fun! :)

Anna will be returning to the role of the younger Christine in The Phantom of the Opera in London starting in early September. I am bouncing off the wall with joy! She's an excellent actress with a enchanting soprano voice. Not mention is so beautiful it makes me go green with envy. Haha! As I said in my first comment though. She's more the just a pretty face. She seems like such a wonderful person who has enough talent to span across the galaxy! :)

This is why I can't get enough of Ms. O'Byrne. Not only does she have sense of refinement and masterful intelligence around her that is equivalent to that of a lady of noble birth. She also balances it out as an equal amount of joyful goofball who adores laughing and smiling. Who says you can't bridge the gap of these personality features? Mainly because the eviddence is right here to see. She's a sweetheart who is self confident and silly. :)

33winterbirds to sing this part you kind of have to be - it's a heavy part even for a trained singer! I don't think an untrained one could do it, you need real technique to sing a role like Christine.
