. 1997 TV Movie staring John Ritter, Anna Chlumsky, Tess Haper, Sarah Chalke, Karl David-Djerf, Bob Morrisey, Kevin McNulty, and cameo by Bill Clinton.
"John Ritter reveals a more serious side playing a father who's fired from his job after taking time off to care for his 16-year-old daughter, who is battling cancer. Instead of giving up, the dedicated dad decides to fight back. With the help of a senator, he lobbies Congress to pass the momentous Family and Medical Leave Act."
I had been looking for this movie for years and finally found it; thought I'd share it with everyone!
I do not own the rights to this movie.

I still remember watching this movie years ago on Lifetime TV. I had missed the beginning, when Bill Clinton was credited, so the ending was an incredible surprise. I was up sobbing half the night. The next day I called the Make-A-Wish Foundation and made my first pledge.

very sad but lovely movie. missy was truly a very unselfish. girl never to hardly complain about her situation with cancer. when she really had so much to complain about. her positive attutide and beautiful nature was very special. its just so sad and true in this world. that people like missy who are so grateful for life and what is given to them. get dealt the worst hand at life. where others that are horrible people live healthy lives it just is very unfair. so happy at the end it really touched my heart when missy got to meet the president. even then she was so truly beautiful the way she spoke to him . he was also very lucky to meet such a beautiful person for sure..

I'm trying to learn to be like that. I have so much going for me right now and I'm trying to complain less about things I deal with. I have arthritis in my knee and it hurts to walk, but I do it without assistance. I picked up a girl ( Uber driver) and she was younger than me and had those double canes around her wrist to walk. I was like I need to stop my negativity. I could be like this and also I could have a horrible diseases. When people want to moan and groan about a minor inconvenience in life they need to look at other people and realize how blessed they are not to be in a situation, cause life can quickly turn very hard against you in an instant.

He's been gone for so long. It's easy to forget. But you only have to look at movies like this. To realize and remember just how good of an actor John Ritter truly was.

I saw this film when I was 10, and my English was very poor. I’m 41 now living in the US. That scene stuck to my head all these years for some reason.

Lovely movie, lovely girl. Bill Clinton was wonderful! However, I have something to say. If I was a teenager with cancer, I would refuse all treatment, especially, amputation!!! The pain is NOT worth the gain!!! Chemo can cause revolting long-term side effects. American people have been left destitute due to high-cost medical treatment. Cancer is very big business!!! See if those money hungry, power hungry, snotty doctors and nurses would "care", if you had no medical insurance!!! I would have escaped that dreadful hospital, and refused treatment!!! Let those doctors and nurses burn in hell!!!

Yes sadly; the character of Missy was based on two girls who both had terminal cancer and died. The movie is based on similar incidents that both families went through.
