@BlackinChinaChronicles, do not bring your western prejudices to judge China. The Chinese are generally very practical and matter-of-fact. They aren't racist like those the western countries.

Don't feel offended bro. My uncle was darker than average and his nickname was Black Man Lim. Everyone called him that, even his own mother.

Yeah, I have an aunt being call that as a nick name (black sis) by people in her generation and it stuck.😂 PS when Chinese people are tanned, their skin tone can get darker than some blacks such as Beyonce. That person definitely didn't sound like it was meant as an insult or offence, otherwise he would have said it in his local dialect rather than English.

Ya my mom's nickname was fatty just because she was slightly heavier than my other relatives and my cousin's nick name is rooster boy. It is common to call people by their appearance. It might seem be rude to non Chinese people but it is acceptable and quite common in China. He could have just responded by calling the man yellow in a nice and friendly tone and he would have been ok with it. Also, this channel is called Black in China Chronicles. I would have thought referring to yourself as black would have been acceptable.

There are a lot of ethnic groups in China (because China is very big) if you search XinJiang online you will see a lot of people from there are Uygur which typically look more like people from Turkey or Russia.

@@Dreamface_officialapp In fact Russian are one of the official Chinese minority ethnic group. Ethnic distribution often don't follow national boundaries, so you get native Russian in Siberia who are ethnic Chinese and native Chinese in Northern China who are ethnically Russians. Some of the Chinese Russian are descendents from Russian that came to China in 17th century, a hundred year before US war of independence.

You are right. He was ignorant. He shouldn’t have shouted that at you. And everybody making excuses for him lmao. It’s fine if they know you and that’s your family and their nickname. But it’s totally ignorant and rude to shout a nickname at a total stranger. I would not take well to somebody calling me yellow or slanty eyes in public. Nor would I take it from my own family. We are not ignorant. But many people in China are still barely educated, just came out of the countryside where there are no foreigners, and are often not used to modern etiquette like no spitting in public, no urinating in public, not queuing, and of course, don’t shout nicknames at strangers. It’s rude. (Perhaps not racist. But definitely ignorant and rude). And thank you for sharing this video:) Cheers from NyC :) Also, we get that here in the US as well. Some Chinese people here have that same attitude. The newly emigrated ones. They spit, they cut lines, they shout in public, and they STARE LOL. If they find something interesting about you, they will stare at you. Very ignorant and rude. But it’s normal to them. Lmao. But you are there teaching them manners just by being you and being there. They will slowly get used to seeing people of different colors etc and hopefully will soon stop being rude to strangers. :)

There are 56 ethnic groups in China, including Muslims, especially in Xinjiang and Qinghai and Ningxia provinces. What’s interesting is that among the Chinese there are Xinjiang people who look like white people. There are also some Russian ethnic groups in the Northeast who are also Chinese.

Yeah, agreed. He shouldn't be assuming that people are racist just because they describe him as he is. In my experience, Chinese people are quite direct and they see no insult in giving nicknames to their friends and family members according to their characteristics. Actually, they become terms of endearment. And they would all identify by their nicknames eg. Fatty, Little Dog, Crazy Person, Shorty, Riceball, ...etc. Seems like he is the one who is ignorant, even after 7 years in China.

the guy says black because that's the only english word he could come up with when he sees a black person.....it's his way of saying "go Africa!" without the vocubulary, don't take it too personally. It's obvious man calling you black is not out of racism. He has bad English, he wanted to be friendly. So what should he call you to get your attention???in English.😊 If you don't like it or fear it might offend others. Go up to him with a translator. And nicely tell him and others that do it . That it's offensive to dark skin people. And tell him and others what you prefer or what other dark skin might prefer to be called.

@@BlackInChinaChronicles some foreigners even white people don't like being called Gweilo or laowhy by Chinese. Especially white people that grew up in China as kids to adult. It's because the want to be looked at as Chinese . I see white girls vloggers tear up . And Chinese is a nationality not ethnicity. China has white ethnic group in China. But up north or west. Black people might be a new ethnic chinese group. Especially in Guangzhou little Africa.
