@@andrew-karens-adventures Fair play, we did it for two years in January. Had like you, lovely smooth crossing. Then we got greedy, and went a third time at same time of the year. Oh dear....what a nightmare, worst experience ever, it was horrendous. Never again(well not in January) !

Was any checking for pasaport in dublin or uk?

We did take our Passports as we were entering Ireland which is in the European community, security checks done in Holyhead but no passport checks were done, can't remember if we entered our passport details when booking ferry as it was over 6 months before sailing, If I remember in Ireland they just had a chat with us, (not sure if you're not a UK citizen if they check passports) It's a bit of a strange situation as you can sail to Northern Ireland and drive into Southern Ireland without any passport checks, my advise would be take your Passports anyway

Ireland and the UK have had the current "Common Travel Area" agreement since 1952, which doesn't require passports for travel between the two. Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, but when travelling between any two countries it is advisable to carry passports at all times anyway, and significantly helpful if consular or embassy assistance is required in the country you are visiting.

@@MariglenZeneli you don’t need a passport, due to the common travel area. Between Ireland and Uk. (But always wise to bring if) This never changed after Brexit as it predated the EU freedom of movement. When Ireland became independent. The Only thing Brexit changed, was back to the customs rules. It’s why there is now Duty free back on the boats.

Oooops, no - it doesn't have to be done. Everyone I know here in Ireland avoids Temple Bar like the plague. Doheny & Nesbitt's, Toner's, the Long Hall (plus many others too numerous to mention) would have given you a much better experience of Dublin's pub life.
