Actors are amazing. Kay Cole, for instance. How can she deliver Maggie’s monologue with such hearfelt sincerity (4:38-4:47), then NOT break into tears and, instead, go on to give the most astonishing vocal performance? (In fact, she keeps her tears for after the song is ended, 6:47.) I mean, how do you do THAT? I just don’t get it-not being an actor myself. By the way, is it the best version of the best song from the best ‘70s Broadway show? Yes, yes, and yes!

That crescendo of Maggie is everything. It's so magical

This entire performance is one of the best. Watching this one can see why a Chorus Line ran for sooo long. And this performance is so perfect it is impossible to not love this show. Such excellent lyric writing and score. The craftsmanship of these three is superb. It was a time when performing artists were independently with their style. Now one tends to see the sameness in everyone's voice and mannerisms and timing. Bravi.

The more I watch this clip, the more I understand how emotional it must have been for them to be reunited like this 15 years after the opening night. Clive Wilson is crying (2:51), Sammy Williams is crying (5:18), Kay Cole is crying (6:47), and so am I.

Karlheinz Stockhausen I agree. I'm crying too. Thanks for pointing out Sammy Williams at 5:18. I've be trying to track him. Great to see him healthy and present. What a great dancer!

This is, hands down, the best song in the show. The first time I saw A Chorus Line (it was the movie), At The Ballet blew me away. It's one of the great songs in the history of the Broadway musical. One thing: the climactic phrase of each verse is harmonically sophisticated enough that the musician in me wants spot-on intonation and vocal blending. Broadway "con belto" singing is dramatically right for the characters, especially Sheila, but I want the musical values, too. Well done, ladies.

Stellar today, as it was when I first saw this episode of Donahue! Most people do not know Kelly Bishop prior to "Gilmore Girls" or "Dirty Dancing." Too bad; she's amazing!

Hands-down, my favorite number from this show. How can your eyes not well up when you hear these ladies sing about the place where "everything was beautiful" and not remember your own childhood where you longed for that place, too. And that vocal crescendo...well, kill me now because it just doesn't get any better than that!

Kay Cole and her voice should be in the Smithsonian...because her, and her voice are national treasures.

"Pretty is what it's about." How true. Even more true now than in 1975 when this song was written.

Agreed! That's why she won the Tony. She didn't have the best voice of the girls, but she WAS Sheila. She was real and her acted was second to none. I will definitely say she was the heart of the cast

What everyone has said. Am wiping away my steady tears that went into full-out weeping when the camera caught Sammy Williams wiping away HIS tears. Brava, Bishop, Lane y Cole, bravo, Donohue, bravi a tutti, bravissimo.
