Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Romans 8:28 is one of the most famous verses in the Bible. People love the thought that God works out all things for good for those who love Him. Yet, Romans 8:28 is intimately connected with Romans 8:29-30 where God promises to bodily resurrect those He has called. In other words, the Bible does not promise that Christians will have more pleasant circumstances in this life than non-Christians. The Bible promises a better life to come-not better life circumstances in this world.

Yes but Jesus also talks about healing. So he doesn't want us to suffer. Sometimes bad things are happening, but Jesus wants to restore us. also our body's.

For the life of me, after 50 years in the Lord, I cannot-CANNOT-understand the inability or reluctance of Christians to see the inherent superiority of the old standard of the English Bible which once united the entire English speaking world of believers in a common mode of biblical expression, so beautiful, so potent, so eloquent, so memorable, so indelibly unforgettable. So reliably true. So obviously Providential in its timely provenance. I literally loathe the scourge of “new” bibles that have been proliferated for the sole effective purpose of overthrowing that ancient landmark in the name of enhancing it. And is there is worse example than the infamous NIV? God forgive our willful stupidity.
@gregormann7
@gregormann7 4 жыл бұрын
The source of its superiority is found in its intrinsic character. I judge the character of the King James Bible in precisely the way I would judge the character of the original mss if I had them. They are the word of God because they are the word of God. A thing that can only be “known” intuitively, on a spiritual level. There is no further proof required. The proof is in the pudding. Not the rhetorical sophistries invented to obfuscate the obvious.

I dont quite agree with Tim on Jesus' apearance at Lazarus' grave - it seems that Jesus refutes the sister's solution to the problem of death in the "here and now problem" by appealing to eternity and the ultimate ressurection . I think Jesus is actually giving a "here and now" solution by his response . In the non disclosure that he will raise Lazarus then and there , he does turn the attention away from the problem unto himself. At this juncture Jesus' refocused perspective is offerd as being sufficient in answering the problem. As in the case with Job neither the "happy times epilogue" nor the eternal resting place is a necessary ingredient to build a correct theology and response to the evil of suffering, and in this case death.

@gioiosa54 I'm trying to understand what you're saying?... do you mean how Jesus was trying to use death and the resurrection as the only solution? I'm confused..
@lchampag
@lchampag 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t agree. Jesus hated death. He particularly loved Lazarus, He particularly loved Martha and Mary. He could see their hearts. Yet he delayed coming to them after hearing Lazarus was on his death bed, so as scripture (not me) says so …….. go back read it and learn the reason for yourself and you’ll see God is great and merciful.
@gioiosa54
@gioiosa54 2 жыл бұрын
@@lchampag Most people dont pick up the nuance given by John in this passage , , John clearly says it , ""Jesus delayed exactly because he loved them"" or put it this way " Because he loved them he delayed his coming "
