A 'Cinema Quality' PTZ - Sony FR7 - Quick Look

Absolute game changer, but coming from a large venue live event world, for this to be useful Sony really need to add some more longer PZ lenses or a rail mounted focus and zoom unit to control any lens, that can be controlled via the same PTZ controller. Could probably get something working with a skaarhoj controller, but would be great to some see something first party for seamless integration.

Agreed that some longer zoom PZ lenses would be hugely useful. But this is still incredibly useful as is. A full frame sensor will always have a disadvantage over a smaller one or a fixed lens when it comes to zoom range. I can see this being used on the front / sides of stages. In the orchestra pit. Behind the stage for the wide of the venue etc. With this, the quality of those angles will match the long lens cameras at the back which a camera operator is controlling. And that’s something pretty special!

@@OpticalSanity Absolutely, and then you can use the Super-35mm PZ lenses which have a longer zoom reach. Plus theres Clear image zoom as well. So there are ways around the reach if you are happy to drop down in image quality slightly

I thought the next step from high-end PTZ like the Panasonic UE150 would be something like a box Sony or Grassvalley camera with 2/3" broadcast 4k lens on top of a Vinten PTZ head. Full Frame leads to very short zoom possibilities... Not sure where it fits this kind of product but interesting though

Thanks for watching. They are very different cameras! The DJI is based around a gimbal, not a PTZ mechanism. Similar but some huge fundamental differences

@@carlyates2487 True but I reckon that what Sony's going to make next, they've done it with drones. Actually I retract my agreement in huge fundamental differences. Really? I mean u can put a tripod underneath this right? it's lightweight right? being sony it probably is light enough to use a gimbal. also it can be controlled through an app, just like Dji's gimbal. I rest my case and also what I meant is this is just Sony's start or sort of getting into the mindsets of people that they'll make a gimbal next. this is my belief anyways

This is very interesting. The FX6 has been on Backorder since December 2021. Even though the shipment of this camera will dwarf the FX6, how can Sony possibly catch up on manufacturing and shipping all the back-ordered FX6 units and then announce this? Lol
