When I saw the acrylic case, I initially thought you'll hook up a compressor/vacuum pump to simulate various sea levels.
@KonradTheWizzard3 жыл бұрын
...like the sea level on Earth, the sea level on Venus (that one is tricky!), the one on Tau Ceti b, ....? SCNR. I assume you meant various air pressure levels or altitudes? Yeah, that was my first thought too.
@Sukrim3 жыл бұрын
@@KonradTheWizzard Technically there are also multiple sea levels on Earth, depending on jurisdiction. Also practically, since tides exist. But yeah, I of course meant altitudes, thanks for the correction. ;-)

Your fear of high voltage have made the build really sane! Even the "crudeness" looks professional to me. I figured out you had some help, since very few DIY guides actually leads to regulated output voltage/current. The schematics floating around the net mostly push as much power as doable into a arc.

I went to one of the world's largest testing facilities for high voltage/amperage in the world, as soon as they needed to manipulate anything powered on at any Amp or Volt they use rubber gloves, similar to long sleeved washing up gloves. Any really high voltage, like the generator with monitors which powered our device, was in a sealed room. With even higher voltage causing they pumped the testing chamber full of gas which breaks arcs, I needed to sit through a training video before I was even allowed on-site

have you thought about placing the electrodes in a pressurized chamber, in which the pressure can be increased or decreased
@strangerparts3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this is typically how this type of experiment is done. However, A) I don't have a pressure chamber B) It would have been much harder to film it in action and C) I thought it was cooler to do high voltage experiments in the middle of nowhere 😁

@@strangerparts but is it really so hard to build a pressure camber the pressure difference between sea-level and 2000m elevation is not that much with a semi tight vessel and a big enough compressor that should not be a big problem.
