Ordered and just received a couple of these Blue Spruce butt chisels for detail work like dovetailing. I like to grasp the chisel low near the cuts for control. Bench chisels, being long by comparison, tend to give me hand cramps in preventing wobble. And butt chisels fit comfortably in the palm for other work. Like the way the steel is shaped and machined for getting into tight spots. These are pricy but of highest quality.

Trying to make a “lifetime chisel” decision, and Blue Spruce is obviously in the running but not a lot of reviews online. Have you got experience with the Veritas and Leigh Neilson chisels, to contrast to the Blue spruce?

I have not used any Veritas chisels (but plenty of their planes & blades). To be honest it's hard to go wrong with the Lie-Nielson chisels (I have them). They're a known quantity and economical considering the quality. I see Blue Spruce as a bit more in the luxurious category. The Veritas tools are better manufactured whereas the Lie-Nielson and Blue Spruce have a little more of a handmade quality (not a bad thing of course).

Yes, they are pricey. But it gives me joy, and this one has been a pleasure to use so far. I'll probably buy another one every once in awhile until I have a useful range in sizes.

95 dollars for a chisel. That's cheap enough and there still the same price or close to it.

Hey Marty, love your videos. I'm getting back into woodworking after a few years off and am starting my channel. I'm looking at clip on microphones and was wondering which one you use? Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I use this one, which works great and has a 20 foot cord: amzn.com/B00HZA6EJO
