@@mathewferstl7042 But Blue is trying to jump a few generations in one new vehicle. They intend to try to recover the booster on the maiden flight. They may not make it, since SpaceX needed a few tries to get it, but then again, BO has a real advantage by watching SpaceX's development process.

What ELSE will happen, Greg? An FAA investigation to any variation or mishap is "Standard Operating Procedure" (do you know what that means?). FAA investigations are "fine" by every Aerospace Corporation... except SpaceX i.e. Elon Musk. @@Rocket_scientist_88 I see a small number of sparks ejecting about when the rocket clears the tower. Not that I think the tower had anything to do with it. But maybe the seal between the nozzle assembly and the rest of the rocket was breached at that time.

Little to no reason for the FAA to get involved. Ground what? There is no flying fleet. Certification comes from the DoD in this case and I doubt they're happy.

Vulcan’s performance is much higher because it doesn’t have that silliness. It only looks cool to the general public, but carrying the extra weight means the launcher cannot carry as much, or go into hiher orbits, etc. A little more expensive, but Vulcan/Centaur is a better rocket overall. 💯👍🏼

@@paulpark1170 The Vulcan comes in configurations with 0,2,4, or 6 SRM. The GEM-63XL SRM has a pretty reliable flight history, but I'm sure its manufacturer will be initiating an investigation. Given that the payload was delivered exactly to its intended orbit, it shouldn't be a big deal, but the DoD will have its own say as to whether or not to accept the cert2 flight.

Dreamchaser mission was be shorted. The fuel supply would be used to compensate for the altitude of the orbit, and there would be little fuel left for de-orbiting.

Why would ULA call elon for advice? It’s the other way around - ULA has been doing this as ULA and before that as Lockheed Martin and Boeing far longer than elon’s company. And ULA knows exactly what to do, not elon. He doesn’t understand the details, just the business. And I agree with the above comment, this isn’t a football rivalry. Oh, also - the FAA has announced there will be no investigation. 👍🏼 I also don’t see why there would be… Northrup Grumman will conduct its own investigation, and that will be enough.
