The performance of BE-4 today gives me a lot more confidence that New Glenn's first flight will be successful, regardless of stage recovery.

What ELSE will happen, Greg? An FAA investigation to any variation or mishap is "Standard Operating Procedure" (do you know what that means?). Vulcan’s performance is much higher because it doesn’t have that silliness. It only looks cool to the general public, but carrying the extra weight means the launcher cannot carry as much, or go into hiher orbits, etc. A little more expensive, but Vulcan/Centaur is a better rocket overall. 💯👍🏼

@@paulpark1170 The Vulcan comes in configurations with 0,2,4, or 6 SRM. The GEM-63XL SRM has a pretty reliable flight history, but I'm sure its manufacturer will be initiating an investigation. Given that the payload was delivered exactly to its intended orbit, it shouldn't be a big deal, but the DoD will have its own say as to whether or not to accept the cert2 flight.

This would not be a safety issue as far as theFAA is concerned. It doesn’t have Elon Musk’s name on it nor is it linked to the Republican Party. 2 requirements for a safety issue to the American public and our precious environment. I guess the US military never has exercises that are any safety concerns.

Why would ULA call elon for advice? It’s the other way around - ULA has been doing this as ULA and before that as Lockheed Martin and Boeing far longer than elon’s company. And ULA knows exactly what to do, not elon. He doesn’t understand the details, just the business. And I agree with the above comment, this isn’t a football rivalry. Oh, also - the FAA has announced there will be no investigation. 👍🏼 I also don’t see why there would be… Northrup Grumman will conduct its own investigation, and that will be enough.
