In the early 90s I attended college in Westchester County and got a part time summer job working in the ticket office at Caramoor Center for the Performing Arts in Bedford, NY. While working there a fellow employee pointed over the back wall of the grounds and casually remarked, "that's the rear of the Ralph Lauren estate." Intrigued, I started paying attention to the estate entrance which was to the left of the rear entrance to Caramoor and would occasionally see one of Ralph's classic collector cars from his infamous collection pull out of the driveway and ride up the road in the opposite direction. Ferraris, Jags and Porsches of all eras and models, all gleamingly perfect coming and going. I later found out that he had bought an old dilapidated stone barn up the road and was restoring/renovating it to house his car collection. We were always peering over the wall to get a glimpse of someone or something at the house but all we ever saw were groundskeepers and the occasional party tent. Martha Stewart also bought one of the big estates nearby and restored it to become her now famous home. Bedford NY is quite beautiful and Old World-ly - it has a very English countryside feel to it.

Hi. I enjoyed your video. What most people don't know is that his estate is actually a collection of many estates surrounding this main house. Over the years he bought all of the neighboring properties and built private roads connecting them. Everything within his portfolio of real estate is contained within a large walled gate and fence. Most of the homes are vintage and quite grand, there are one or two smaller yet charming farmhouses. Lots of barns and outbuildings, too. The staff use golf carts to travel around the property. The "secondary" homes are used as guest dwellings, caretakers residences and storage. I have been to this estate and saw this all with my own eyes. I have been inside the pool house (it was completely empty) and one of the barns, but never saw the interior of the main house or the pool house decorated, so this video was a treat.

Ralph is the legend. He created a style that when Americans in the 80's started getting wealthy they could dress like old money royalty of europe. The Hunt style.... Tennis style... all the iconic styles were now able to be explored by the new upwardly mobile yuppies of the time.......Genius.
@virginiagrundman4012 Жыл бұрын
Jesus Christ are you wrong. You know nothing about how Europeans dress, much less our culture.
@yankeedoodledarling9232 Жыл бұрын
With all due respect, American old money has been dressing and living like this for centuries (but with significantly less clutter). It's just that this life was not talked about or advertised/showcased until RL picked up on it as a fantasy that he could sell.

@@yankeedoodledarling9232 True but the point is Old Money America copied everything about themselves from Aristocratic Europe from the clothes and style of home (both interior and exterior) to the upperclass English accent which they failed at horribly.
@yankeedoodledarling923211 ай бұрын
Old money USA didn't copy anything. These folks brought ideas, speech patterns and traditions with them that they were familiar with. With a move to the "new world" of the East Coast, these immigrant settlers arrived to a landscape similar to Europe both socially and topographically and so carrying ingrained traditions isn't a stretch by any means. It isn't copying. What were we supposed to do - develop a new language and furniture style and toss our traditions onto the dung heap just because we weren't on the other side of the pond anymore? My ancestors are from Germany, Scotland and England. Our family plaid is the Anderson plaid - and wearing it isn't copying anyone or anything. As for the accent - I am unsure which regional accent you refer to. I am from Long Island's North Shore and we speak differently than people who hail from the South Shore. My accent is derived from my ancestors and we didn't fail at speech - we learned it from our peers - which is how language is learned (former educator here). By the way, if you make these criticisms about old money, you would be a hypocrite if you didn't apply that same logic to any socio-economic ethnic group here in the USA since we are all immigrants. But you are entitled to your opinion, though I find it a tad infused with that strange fruit occasionally referred to as sour grapes. Have a better day!@@queen-estherobasi4086

Huge Fan of Ralph’s Garment Center run. The House is a figment of his abundant imagination. Down to the fiber, he layered his imaginary Life into layer upon layer of pure fantasy. A world that he created from scratch. A hint of England, Scotland & America. Hard to imagine what actually living in a Museum could be like. Growing up as his children, must have been excruciatingly difficult, in that, you’re “ON” even during a relaxation phase. Talk about living in a fish bowl🤔 All in all, he gets my Respect for Revolutionizing the Garment Industry and creating a thriving Business, that embodies a view from the upper crust, with simply wearing a Polo Shirt 😎

Love his style, but he just teases. His stores used to have the oversized blue and white Chinese porcelain, but only for display. Do you know where we can buy these oversized vessels? Also, have his Brianna bedding, but need new sheets and pillowcases. He never revives old favorites. Wish he would. It was his best paisley and plaid fabrics. Please advise if you know where to get these items.

RL is definitely a maximist! Elements of his style are really lovely but then he pushes it & it’s too busy & cluttered for today’s aesthetic. We all don’t live in a mansion & a lot of what he has done wouldn’t be possible in modern homes but I would need to pare it back if I did live where he lives.
@chloeann44234 ай бұрын
I totally agree! WAY too busy and cluttered, be it for a mansion or for a "normal size" house. Too much of everything. The eyes don't even know where to look! But that's personal taste. His is the "overdone, way over the top". It doesn't mean that a more modern and less busy style is not correct. The narrator says "the ambiance remais light", but light it certainly is not!

Thank you for the thorough tour of the Lauren estate. It's a beautiful property and I love the pool house and the pool area. For me being an animal lover, I'd get rid of the all the dead animals hanging on the wall. Also, its a bit too maximalist for me, a bit sensory overload in its objects d'art. It is good to keep in mind that some folks will enjoy all the temporary wealth and material pleasures that money can buy in this life; while others will enjoy all the Indescribable glorious beauty of God's heaven for ALL ETERNITY. There will be a role reversal: those who were rich in this worlds goods, but not rich towards God, will spend eternity in hades(hell); but those who had none of Earth's pleasures, but were rich towards God will spend eternity in God's exquisite heaven. Where will you spend eternity???????
