I will say that not all modifications are bad. Some changes in values IF done correctly can make positive changes in audio and receive. The key is correctly!

💯 agree. I left some upgraded cap values in the af amp area and in the rx chain. The rest needed to go.

I have one of ( his ) radios,same one , 4 channels above on bright / dim switch,with a variable on dynamic switch,it seems to work well,good reports,talked to Florida during skip from upstate NY

The older I get, the more I say most mods are not worth the money. You want high power or channels above 40, buy a radio that does it from the factory.

I think the RC Mod pack is using the spaces where RC model control was supposed to be. Often called the B channel,, essentially doubling the number of channels.

No nothing techs do crazzy mods to make money. Most young truckers are very insecure about their radio, and the are always looking for somebody who can give them 75 watts out of their cobra 29 for $100. Any tech who can and will do repairs is far, far ahead of most. Their are also several very loud mouth techs out there who will tell you that a 148 is completly inadequate if you are serious about talking sideband. These same techs have zero time for repairs, do not ask, they won't do it. A low noise trans like a 2sc2999 or equivalent and 4 zeener(fast switching) diodes will clean that a.m reception up ALOT.
