One of my favourite makes of car of all. I want a Fulvia Fanalone like I want legs, but then there's the Aurelia, Stratos, Delta S4, Delta Integrale, any of the Zagatos, the Flavia, the Flaminia, and yes, even the much maligned Beta Coupe! The Beta wasn't a bad-looking car, and it was tough (as JC showed in South Africa). Pity about the naff steel!

Lancia's always looked nice, the Beta was one such example. Even the Delta still looked pretty nice to me. But Beta's would fall apart. But not all Beta's were this bad, Lancia fixed the problem in later model years. Just go for the 1984 model years if you find one for sale, I think I'm not sure😅

Apart from the Fulvia those aren't "real" Lancas, but FIAT-era Lancias. The Fulvia is a really solid car. Why didn't they show us a little more of the Flavia and Stratos in the beginning?

This fulvia is not even a true lancia its not a series 1. they are true fulvias with lancia wide grill , aluminium doors and boot, brass parts and fittings. 4 gear change with long gear shifter and lancia 100 percent. total over engineering at its best, thats why they went bust. the fulvia produced by fiat after 1970 has removed all the above in many ways, do if Jezza thinks this fulvia is fantastic he should try the real thing, its out of this world.

Fun note about 6:59. If you go slowly, or frame by frame, you'll see the footage transition fade to a shot taken with the sunvisor down when the piano drops. So Hammond parks it, Clarkson smashes the door, and only after that they set up the second piano to drop on the car.

No corrosion any more! All cars of Fiat group nowadays they have 22μm galvanized coating inside-out. The FCA is the only car manufacturer who use 22μm hot-dip galvanizing in metal body parts even the screws are galvanized.

I had a 1982 Beta Coupe 2.0 in 1985. It was second car ever. I bought it at only 3 years old with only 11k miles on the clock for £1100. Three years early it had cost the original owner £11,000. Actually, body wise it wasn’t any worse for rust than my very first car which was a BMW 2002tii and certainly better than my third car which was a BMW E9 3.0 CS! The problem with the Lancia wasn’t its fault...it was mine. In those days I didn’t really understand that cars required servicing. So, its engine broke at 33k miles....terminally! As a student at the time I didn’t have the money to fix it so just gave the car away.

The problem with Lancias, as well as many other 70's/80's italian cars, was the fact that Italy was doing business with Soviet Union. Soviets paid with steel... poor quality steel with too much carbon in it, so it was very prone to rust. Unfortunately the italians didn't realise that until it was too late.

I owned a pre-owned 1976 Lancia Beta for a short time in 1980 in Texas. The rust was really terrible along with electric problems(power windows would not go up randomly in long trip, leave you guard you belongings in the stops as well as false warning lights on on the way). Later I learned that the lousy steel plate used then by Fiat group on cars was from USSR via barter trade with export of FIAT 125 salon turnkey assembly line(The Russian Taxis in "Jason Bourne" series are FIAT 125 salon). Meanwhile, Mafia was dominant in private sector in 1970s before Prosecutor Falcone was murdered by bomb on his way home in 1980. The management would not dare to manage the factory floor for fear of the threat from the foremans who were gangsters. The forehand spoiled the workers to gain support for truancy. The foreman clocked on at 11:00 and clocked out at 14:00 with lunch time included. That's why Beta, Uno, Regata were really of shitmetal. Not until 1983 the mass prosecution of Mafia gangsters along with collaborating ruling Christian Democratic Party, the owner family of Iveco Group was able to control the business.

the thing is about lancia is that until fiat bought them in the 70's they were not mass produced cars. They competed on the lower end of the high class cars. So lancia was italys porsche and jag killer at the time and were only produced according to sales not mass produced for the hell of it like so many cars. And these cars were truly mini ferraris. Borgo made the pistons like they did for ferrari they were styled by pininfarina and they made an intoxicating sound that is alone enough to make you wanna drive it everyday the only major thing is that they were built in torino as opposed to maranello
