Mitchell to Prineville 75 km
The good thing about starting in the east of this country is that you leave Oregon at the end. By the time you get to Oregon you are fit… and Oregon has several passes for a daily total of over 3000 ft.
Between these two towns there is literally no services, including no telephone signal. I started my day at the hostel with a rich breakfast and then visiting the Painted Hills National Park. It is a stunning place, one of the seven wonders of Oregon. I was there much early than the most of the tourists.
In the descent toward Prineville I had my 8th flat tire, or my 9th, depends how I count them. Prineville is a fairly big town if compared to the others; but the days of the villages are now over. I am in densely populated valley and the major cities of Oregon aren’t far.
