A comparison of current types of bunion surgery

This is a short video comparing the pros and cons of current bunion surgeries. It goes over the basic categories of surgeries, the common goal of bunion surgeries and the pathomechanics of a bunion and hallux valgus. It covers syndesmosis or non-bone breaking bunionectomy and gives advantages and disadvantages to all types of bunion surgery.
This video is produced by Doug Ichikawa, D.P.M., a podiatrist in Bellevue, Washington and at the University of Washington. He has been in practice for 29 years and specializes in the syndesmosis bunionectomy originally popularized by Daniel Wu, orthopedic surgeon from Hong Kong.
This video will cover Austin bunionectomies, Lapidus bunionectomies, joint fusion and bumpectomy procedures.
While there are advantages and disadvantages to each procedure, there is no one best procedure.

T’hanks for your video! What about lapiplasty? Do you lump that procedure equally when you refer to Lapidus? I’ve read how recovery time is so much faster. And reviews of this procedure have all been great.

I did lapiplasty. Have I known that they would fuse my 1st cuneiform and 1st metatarsal I would of never gotten it done. Now my toe joint is stiff and will never get full range of motion back

Lapiplasty will leave toe joint permanently stiff and you will lose full range of motion forever. People please DO NOT GET THESE SURGERIES! YOU WILL FOREVER REGRET IT!
