Thanks Nathan, another super clear and concise lesson! When it comes to applying the triads, is there anything to consider in terms of the function of the diminished chord you are playing over? For example if the chord is really just a sub for a dominant chord, e.g. in a turn around vs. a common tone diminished chord in a tune (I can't think of an example so apologies if my question isn't clear)?

great question! I actually have a lesson applying diminished over dominants! it's linked at the end of the video but I'll put it here as well. Alto of it is the same, but you think about a different diminished chord over it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKWvoJeZpMuVq6c

Don't bother with bb7. Dim7 is just 1 b3 b5 6

To get the 13th sound in there sure, but that’s often used as a color tone is it not? Thinking about the triads as I covered in the lesson gets the extended sound as well. What you saying is cool, but I wouldn’t ever say not play a full diminished sound

It is better for wiewers if you use a guitar with dots in the neck. Thanks for the lesson.

Thanks for your comment! I honestly don't have enough money to purchase another guitar... I only own one which is what you see in the videos. You can find every example written out on Patreon with embedded audio though, so that is a plus :)

@@NathanBortonMusicI have no problem with lack of dots, but just wanna say, you definitely deserve to have more guitars, man!

I saw someone draw dots on his, ahem, Thorell FV, with a silver paint marker. 😂 I wouldn't ask someone to do that! I pause the video & count frets if I need to... or watch on a large screen instead of a watch or phone 😮. Elite luthier conspiracy: when someone has the chops to justify a high end guitar, they don't need fret markers. Don't write on an LCD monitor.
