Question: I've had two Black Beauty plants die, one after the other. Healthy transplants planted in a huge pot with good drainage. All of my cucumbers, tomatoes, and every other plant in my container garden are thriving. All have the same soil (composted manure/coir/perlite) amended with bone meal and granular prior to planting, mulched with coco coir chips. The zucchinis keep drying out and dying, starting with older leaves. They're well watered, pH is in range. Balanced fish/kelp fertilizer (approx 2-1.5-2) weekly- I co-plant densely with flowers & herbs in grow bags, so the other plants need the regular feedings. I'm so confused by the zucs, though. The only difference is the bottom 1/3 of the zuc pot is filled with coco chips as filler. We don't have vine borers/squash bugs where I am. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Hello Garry, all my plants are in containers and the only organic matter is fertilizer What should I put ,compost or water soluble fertilizer?
@THERUSTEDGARDEN6 ай бұрын
Fertilizers arent much on increasing organic matter. But they give the nutrients. You really want compost, leaf mold, even peat moss, mixed through the soil. @THERUSTEDGARDEN6 ай бұрын
Microbes, especially in healthy soil, multiple and digest pretty fast. As they do, some becomes ready early, some takes much longer. So it will help this plant but that is why we also use water soluble fertilizer. A lot will be ready in August for new plants that replace them. I’ve been playing with the an adjustable hose sprayer ( I think it’s called chameleon) anyways if learned you can get high strength peroxide and working on a right amount of neem, also dish soap.. I haven’t killed any plants and it’s really convenient to do. Two things.. you HAVE TO HAVE 12% peroxide to use it AND use it up within a few hours as the Peroxide degrades into water and oxygen fairly quickly. A side note.. have you ever observed plants growing crazy after a rain storm.. after spraying I see this and I think it maybe the oxygen going into the soil after the peroxide breaks down (btw it breaks down after spraying I think in less than an hour).

Baking soda should only be used as an antifungal, never on the earth. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD

I have 6 yellow squash plants and 6 zuchini. We had quite a few come in a month ago. Now every yellow squash that forms ends up stopping growing at about 3 or 4 inches long and rots. Yes it got pollinated. A green zuchini hasnt set in weeks. Its like they all just completely stopped. The last yellow that was edible stopped growing at 4 inches long and sat there and matured while we kept waiting for it to get bigger. It was small with huge seeds inside and thick skin on just a tiny fruit. Have no clue what is going on and nobody seems to have an answer. Cant even search it. Not a single article about fruit staying so small yet still ripening. So discouraging.

@THERUSTEDGARDEN but I thought you said you use baking soda and milk to spray the squash leaves. I have some growing and beginning to to flower, trying to grow it vertically but the insects is eating the leaves. What do you suggest. Should I use baking soda oe whey or mix them together and spray 🤔

Funny, zucchini plants are one of the few that don't get attacked by bugs in my area. One plant can go all season. Beets and chard, on the other hand, get attacked by leaf miners within a couple days.

That is why I put in timestamps. If I did 5 sep. videos on planting, fertilizing and watering, bug sprays, pruning, and other topics... It is still just as long.
