Hi Gary, My 2024 garden ended on January 15th with my last harvest. However, my 2025 garden kicked off on January 4th. I have seedlings for my garden, and my mother 's garden, cabbage, red cabbage, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, and tomatoes. On my heat mat, I have seeds for six varieties of peppers and basil germinating. The first seeds sprouted yesterday. The other day, it got down to 9F. Brrr. My potting soil is frozen solid. I brought it inside to thaw. As soon as it does, dill is next on the heat mat; I have space to do it. Then comes oregano, cilantro, and marjoram. Round three will be leafy greens and flowers. I'll finish off my seed starts with zucchini, cantaloupe, watermelon, and cucumbers. Everything else gets direct sown. If all goes s expected, seeds will be sown, and cool weather crops will be in the ground starting on February 20th. I have two GreenStalk towers, a herb garden, and sixteen raised beds to fill, so I am going to be busy.

Cut and come again lettuce could also be done in a sufficiently deep container that’s not a cell pack, measure spacing for seeds considering them growing to a decent height.- even trim some, leave others to grow. Nice show, Gary

Just a heads up, I was at Home Depot yesterday and noticed the 2.2 Cu. Ft. bale of Peat Moss was only $14.97! It's usually $24.97 but I think maybe discounted because it is winter and in low demand. Good way to save money.

Peas always frustrate me because when they grow, most of the stalks near the dirt develop a small spot there the stock thins, almost looks like it got kinked or bug damage. Most survive despite this oddity. I don't understand why.

Other things that affect how much cells dry out, light variation over a single tray, how much air current hits each particular spot on the tray. I can have empty cells dry out. It's not all about water uptake by a growing plant.

Hey dude, you along with pretty much every other channel showing lighting set ups and they're all different, I don't get it unless I can copy EXACTLY what you have. These don't help. If I can no longer find the exact lighting you have or make the same kind of station you have because I don't have the space and ALL details matter when it comes to lighting, I don't really learn anything from it other than you have a nice setup. There is ONE piece of information that's very valuable but yet channels seem to either go by guessing or have done trial and error, which is the same thing I'd have to do with your setup because there are many variables. As an example, where is that area in a given room and in relation to any outside light. What kind of wood was used and how reflective is it, the color of the walls, is it glossy paint, etc.... But the one piece of information, no matter if someone wants to debate it that can really help is the amount of light that's getting down to the top of the plants, and nothing tells me that other than a LUX or PAR meter because it's not the amount of light from the source that matters, it's the amount of light the plants RECEIVE. Meters show what they're likely to receive when you measure the light at the top of the plants or as close to that as possible. It also allows you to see the difference in light across a lighted area. Follow up on that theme, do a bit of testing with light and THEN make a new video about your lighting area and it will have lots of value to viewers. Otherwise, I know I can't make what you have because my space is limited to a single shelving unit and I have to provide light to 6 shelves, each big enough to hold a single 1020 tray. One could say it adds cost to have to buy a meter, OK a LUX meter is around $30 USD and most people probably spend WAY more than that for everything they need, so as a percentage of total cost it's probably pretty small for most people. A PAR meter on the other hand is a luxury.

You are way over thinking things. For seed starts. 5100K or higher. 5000 lumens or higher. Just white LEDs. 14 hours on, 10 hours off. You can vary from this set up for sure based on what is available, just adjust the light up or down some. It really is pretty simple for seed starts. For growing indoors for harvesting, it's different.

I don’t see why someone would have to know and do exactly what the content creator does. Every year gardening is kind of an experiment anyway, and how can there be no variables, when each person would interpret and manage their system differently. Somehow thousands of people are having success doing things very differently. You should probably make your own channel where you explain things to the nth degree.

Hi Gary, With this artic blast, I am hibernating until Saturday. Let's see, brassicas-check, onions-check, tomatoes-check, peppers-sprouting, basil-germinating, dill, cilantro, oregano, and marjoram are next on the heat mat. After that comes leafy greens and flowers. My carrot harvest was better than expected, and I pulled them up from half frozen ground, so they are going to be sweet! The parsnip harvest was small. It was an experimental crop, so I only planted two dozen. They were pulled from ground that was frozen-snow parsnips. I roasted them in the oven. They were sweet with a hint of carrot flavor. Harvesting them after multiple freezes, I believe, changed their flavor with the starches converting to sugar. I'll definitely grow them again in the fall, but in the spring? I'll have to plant another experimental crop to see what the flavor difference is. I may not like how they taste with them harvested in warmer weather. It may be one of those plants that is best eaten after a few frosts, a hard freeze, or two, and a snow storm.
