Hi Chris, I've just come across your great video. It's good to find someone on KZbin who's bothered to learn how to pronounce the names of the places they're making a video about! I'll try to answer your question about the lack of Trig Points on the Beacons. Basically, there used to be one on top of Pen y Fan but it was removed at some point in time. The Ordinance Survey don't use Trig Points any more as most of their data is gathered by aerial survey now. The trig point on Pen y Fan was placed on top of the bronze age burial cairn at the highest point, were lots of people now queue up to have their photo taken! It could be that it was removed so that the cairn could be excavated and then not replaced as they are not used any more. I know the burial cairn on Corn Du has been excavated in the past.

Hi there!! 👋🏻 Thank you very much for clicking on my video and for your very kind words. I'm happy to hear that I was saying the names of the places right, or at least close. Oh really?! Wow thank you so much for that information that I'd very interesting indeed!! I absolutely love learning about different areas and even though I have done that route many, many times over the years I've just never really thought about it and it just trigged when I was up there. Sorry just realised what I did there but I'll leave it in the comment 🙈🤣🤣 Yeah I knew about them not being used anymore but just wondered about why there wasn't one on Pen Y Fan. Now I know! Absolutely brilliant thanks!! Really appreciate your time taken to watch once again and I wish you a great rest of your weekend 😊 ATB... Chris 🙏🏼👍🏻

Excellent, I’m 57 over weight and always telling myself I cannot do uphill walks. Well this week I did Pen y fan and not the easy route up.. Your right, we are all capable of more than we think. Compared to your walk mine was not in same class, but to me it was my Everest.

When I was in the TA (many years ago) we were tasked with doing Pen-y-fan three times (ie up, down, up down, up down) in one day. I gave up after doing it twice. That was with a 45lb pack, escape belt, two full water bottles and a rifle (SLR). Lovely part of the world though. That last Trig Point has the SAS badge on it. Some sort of memorial. The SAS train up there a lot.

Hey! Yeah I used to have to do a lot of training in the Brecon Beacons too and Dartmoor. I used to trail run this route when I was training properly too, great little route. Always see a lot of Military there on exercises, I was supposed to actually do the Fan Dance last year with corresponding weight and in the time, was booked in but obviously never happened due to the pandemic. Will get back on the SAS site and try and rebook for next year if they are doing it again. Yeah that trig had a few plaques with names and memory messages of soldiers that have been in the SAS and sadly passed during service or during exercises in the Brecons I believe. Thanks for watching and the comment mate 🙏🏼😊👍🏻 ATB... Chris

Hi Ceri & Kat!! Yeah it is such an awesome route and I have done it so many times too, used to trail run this quite a bit when I was training properly. Wish I was close to it do I could do my morning cardio there 😄 The first part though, especially the other path that goes from the main car park, Corn Du and Pen Y Fan get stupidly busy, like the 'Snowdon of South Wales' as you know 😂 When I went back uo to Pen Y Fan with that girl we had to stand in a que of about 17 people or so to get a pic of her with her race bike by the plaque lol. Yeah the last time I did that route just before Christmas was mostly in the clag, photos are down my Insta page somewhere. Definitely a great walk for people to get out and about, just dont understand why so many people get to Pen Y Fan and go back down 🤷🏻‍♂️😆 Thanks for watching as always really appreciated... hope you both have a super weekend! @@theheightoflife Yh summits have been really busy lately! Hi Maggie!! Thanks so much for clicking on my video and leaving me a comment.. really do appreciate your time 🙏🏼🙏🏼 It is a great walk this and yes most of the walk is on a path or at least one you can see has been well trodden. You will have no issues at all getting from the road up to Cord Du and Pen Y Fan as there will more than likely be 100 other people doing it lol, especially if you go from the main car park I said peoplegp from at the start. Its only from Pen Y Fan down to Cribyn etc that there will be a lot less people. It is easy enough to navigate yes but obviously depends on your experience. I used to do a lot of training round here years ago in a previous career and know the area very well. But you do get people get 'lost' still in the clouds. To be honest though most of these people dont really do much walking and 'didnt expect the weather to change'. Like I said though it is a very easy to see path and you cant really go wrong as long as you know your direction of travel at least. As always when hiking in the hills and mountains the knowledge of use of a map and compass is a big help. PLEASE feel free to find me on Instagram if you have it or use the email in my 'about' section and I will be more than happy to show you the loop I did on an OS map and draw a route up so you have an idea 👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks again for watching... take care 😊 Chris

Hi! Thank you very much for clicking on my video and leaving me a comment, I really appreciate your time 🙏🏼😊 I am using the Gopro Hero 9 with the media mod and external mic. 1st comment 😎 This mountain is on my to do list too… I’m sure I say that about every video I watch. I need to get to Wales! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Great vid Chris, lovely views as always. ☺️ Did you consider a wild camp too?

Its really hard to wild camp in that area during the summer. The wardens are out in full force. You can still get away with it if you know the secret tucked away spots. But in all honesty if you do go there and try to camp then ask a local KZbinr for a place to set up. The wardens have also been a lot more strict since covid started.

@@geraintowen2947 Thanks for the info. I’d like to hike the Horseshoe first & gain an understanding of the area before considering a wild camp. It looks to appealing, the sunsets & rises would be amazing.

Hi Rachel!! Haha nice one! Yeah it is a pretty decent hike with some great views indeed! To actually camp on Pen Y Fan or round Corn Du is a bit iffy so to speak, especially this time of year, but ive camped round other areas a few times over the years and been sound, just gotta find the right place. I was meant to do an overnighter in the Beacons the day before but something occurred. Thanks so much for watching!! Hope you enjoy your weekend 😊 🙌🏻

Thanks pal it is a fantastic walk this especially if you have the weather on your side for views haha. I have done this a lot of times over the years in different conditions, I haven't seen any MTBs on the 'main paths' going from the road to Corn Du and upto Pen Y Fan so I'd double check on an OS map. But have seen the odd one on the other parts of the route after Fan Y Bîg. The main paths upto Pen Y Fan though will be very busy with people unless you went very very early or in bad weather lol.
