A Complete Vinyl DJ Set Up for Under $1200!

One of the things that I'm not a fan of with DJing is how cost prohibitive it can be for people. But do you really need $1000 Technics 1200s MK8s? Probably not. Here I look through the internet for some honest to Jebus great budget options that you can learn from and keep for a few years.

I'm on my 4th turntables, 1st were given to me, both different brands probably from the 80's, 2nd Citronics, they broke after a year, sold them towards some technics mk5 ending up selling them due too debt, now have Stanton ST.150 M2 with Ortofon Concorde mix mk2 due to some inheritance money, Technics too expensive as they have doubled in price

Oh you mentioned living in Seattle. Also you mentioned you’re booking. Does that you mean you give lessons? I live in Bremerton and would love to learn the ropes and wouldn’t mind going into the city. Also you have an x swatch and an American nightmare poster and that’s hard as hell

Yeah what about like a hard drive and I think Denon is close to like serato and tractor don't you need that along with the laptop hard drive so you can have music?

I had a dinner DS1 and it worked pretty good to me just as good as serato or tractor but I'm wondering why you didn't mention that for DJ and digital or vinyl?

@@edwardsnowden3883 at the time that I made this, the Denon DS1 was retailed at around $400, which is a third of the budget I outlined and it doesn’t factor a mixer yet. In retrospect, the Numark Scratch mixer is still a better choice since Serato no longer services or updates stand-alone boxes, so if you want to use stems on a DS1 or Scratch live, you can’t. Again, this video was made a while ago and along with the assumption that you already have a laptop, but even if you didn’t, this is a decent start for a vinyl-only setup with room to use Serato later down the line. But maybe I’ll make an update to this to consider standalone controllers.

Most do, but some don’t. Butter rugs are also the slipmats that I prefer because they’re great for scratching, but totally optional.

With powered monitor speakers, the amplifier is inside the speaker. They can be connected directly to the output of a DJ mixer, controller or audio interface.

Here’s the thing, this is meant to be a starter setup that will last a few years, but always with the mindset you’ll upgrade at some point. If you have the money to get PLX-1000s or Technics 1200s, that would be preferred, especially if you’re planning on sticking with it. This is if you have a limited budget because the entry point for vinyl DJing can be really expensive, so this was the gear I would recommend (about a year and a half ago) for the money. When you factor in a budget, like many people have to, there’s a trade off.
