A house with a basement and a secret bunker attached to it...if I had that kind of money that's exactly what I would put it towards in these troubled times...love the double layer of safety, plus the extra habitable space for the house. I'd probably spend most of my time between the basement and the bunker just for the heck of it lol.

tbh i would invest all my money into building the bunker a small house ontop, the security of a bunker with all proper features installed is unmatched. i know my family will be safe there and myself and i could store my wealth down there. and with any extra money i will put up a good strong gated fence to keep out unwanted guests from snooping about. i would say thats a long term goal every family should have.

@NothingButSilicone

@@smudge613You’re supposed to have the water stored in a storage tank, underground, next to the bunker that it draws from. You can get a 2,500 tank for a couple thousand dollars at your local Home Depot or Lowe’s, and that will last a long time considering a person needs 1 gallon per day. 3 people could last well over a year at that amount. As for power, you should always have multiple connections. Hook up to city, hook up to solar panels and have a battery bank inside, and hook up to a backup diesel generator. Most opt for diesel because it lasts longer. Both the motor, and the fuel. Those that can afford to do so, they have a separate building underground next to the bunker that houses the generator. Not sure if I’d do that, due to the extra cost and safety, but I’d definitely be hooked up to one outdoors that’s connected to a fuel tank, and I’d also have back up panels and wiring stored inside in case EMPs wipe out your setup. First 72 hours are critical. In most scenarios, with a gas mask on, you can go out for shorts periods of time to do some easy repairs. I’m sure with some of their builds, a person could go a really long time. Not sure that’s a world you’d want to live in. I live 68 miles from the nearest base, and 77 miles from the nearest city. I So if I couldn’t safely leave the shelter after a couple of weeks, it’s probably not a world I’d want to live in any longer. Just think what everything would be like closer to population centers, or for those that were downwind from blasts.

@@TradeInfinitumA fence won’t do any good unless there is someone above ground on the inside to utilize it. Without an armed owner in sight, a fence is no match for a desperate group with bolt cutters. That money could be better utilized. As a matter of fact, it could end up being a detriment. It just tells others that there is something valuable inside worth protecting.

Sure, in your fantasy apocalypse world, having had contractors install a doomsday shelter on your property means that those contractors know where a doomsday shelter is. And if they kept notes, they could go for the hidden sand-filled escape tunnel. Here are my quick thoughts on that: if you live in a rural area your neighbors probably know who you are and whether you are a prepper. They will find your "cleverly hidden" bunker. That would be much more expensive, and kind of unnecessary as this will protect you from all alpha and beta radiation, and quite a bit of gamma. If you live near a prime target for nuclear ordinance like major cities and industrial areas, the gamma exposure would be far higher, and thus would necessitate making the bunkers deeper, but if your far from any prime targets your safe with a bunker like this.

Atlas Survival Shelters bunkers have many ingenious solutions. For example, the emergency exit is excellent, its location cannot be seen from the surface and even if something falls on it, you can open it. The removal of condensation from the air ducts is also ingenious. Some things are a bit confusing. Why, for example, is the toilet built in the middle of the bunker so that if you go from one room to another you have to go through the toilet. I also wouldn't put the air intake so close to the house because the house could collapse on top of it.

@Mr Kentucky Redneck I mean, the air filtration system used is Swiss, that's why. Yes we have many bunkers and guns. I am definitely not complaining. The thing is, we are dependent on food and energy from outside sources. We can weather a storm but a safe hole in the ground isn't the be all end all when there's no food or electricity or if a majority of the people here welcome whatever outside forces because they saw it on TV... There's no havens.

You can't pour in gasoline, you can't blow in carbon monoxide... but you can just cover the thing with saran wrap or maybe some duct tape. Or just shove dirt down it, so if possible for anyone getting a system like this... build a nice metal cage, wider spaced big bars, and then finer heavy duty chicken or other fencing wire over that around where you put your air vents to the surface to make sure as much as possible nothing can easily get up to them. But do make sure you can still go and clean it from time to time when you need to. Just an extra way to try and make sure random stuff or animals dont get to them and start using it for anything, or kids or people who want to play pranks. If you spent this much on this system already, an extra few hundred bucks or maybe a thousand for a nice protective covering isn't a bad idea depending on where you are. Also plan the air intakes position for your environment. Around my place we got pine treas and stuff that will cover many parts of the ground in needles, cones, and other stuff that gets mulchy and can easily go past a foot in height if not cleaned each year at some point. If you want it to survive a big fire in your area or something that damages the house... be sure to keep that in mind in case like this under patio setup the house burns down and falls onto the intakes, possibly covering them with ash and old wood and stuff. The air vents are the most exposed part of any bunker, so always put some though into how you want those positioned on your property or project to make sure they are safe from all normal weather, creatures, local people, disasters, or anything else you might need to be concerned about. No one wants to be in the bunker, and find somethings blocking the air intakes for it.

30 feet underground minimum. These are not real bomb shelters. They're not even mounted on springs. If a real bomb went off the surrounding gravel would liquify and the people inside would be shaken to death. Moreover, the ventilation system would inevitably get compromised and poison the tenants. This is a very expensive man cave / tornado shelter.

Suggestion - Gooseneck the connections from the intake and exhaust air headers outside of the bunk. So instead of direct elbows, put in a gooseneck/double elbow and have the air intake header sit slightly lower than it is now with the air coming off the top of the header. Then the condensate trap, add a second dissimilar design check valve for redundancy and an extension pipe so it’s located ~6-8’ further down and has a dip leg which would collect the condensation and add head to the water so it will get out even if things degrade or go wrong over time. (Gravel bed plugs with debris, check valve gets sticky, etc)

The type of Welding Process is dictated by the Engineers of any given project; stick welding is easiest to run in remote/field locations with least amount of equipment necessary to make a weld happen. MIG, TIG, etc are mainly used in Production Facility/Shop associated processes due to extra equipment necessary.

Looks like an air lock, but as an ex- -nuclear worker who has gone into and out of radioactive contaminated areas a time or two....that airlock does not appear to room to change out of contaminated clothing, bag it, check for loose radioactive contamination ( e.g., fallout) left on skin, hair, Eric., wash it off, and change into clean clothing before entering the bunker. So what kind of decontamination tion do you expect to do in that , what, 3’ by 3’ area between watertight doors at entrance?

I would love to see a real break down of the cost on these things not just him throwing up some numbers and saying trust me. At half a million this building has less sqft then most mobile homes. I understand you can't bury a mobile and call it a blast rated bunker, but this thing is only maybe 3ft underground. I build homes for a living so I can guess the cost of a lot of this bunker and it isn't coming to 500k, I guess this is one of those instances you're buying the brand not the material. The Narrator here mentioned they don't use a lot of wood and instead use hardie board siding and trim material (which isn't just concrete like he insists on saying but fiber cement) but then just uses it to cover up wood underlayment on the floor so I hope you keep it really dry. The problem there is that hardie board gets brittle faster in very dry environments. don't even get me started on his choice to use the cabinets and vanity that look like they're vinal wrapped particle board which is one of the cheapest things you can use.

I have two main issues. One, where does the water supply come from? Two, where does the electric power come from? If I ever put a smaller version of this in I have imagined that I would put it on top of a hill. After the hole is dug then I would have a well dug, in the bottom of the hole. I would have an old timey hand pump with one full extra and lots of extra parts. I would have a field ling put in down the side of the hill for sewage. The electicity though, I have not figured out how to light the dungeon. Maybe some solar panels well hidden deep in some woods in a small clearing and underground wire, in conduit, trenched to the thing, I don't know for sure.

I would have various built in defensive systems such as the handrail down the main entrance would be fitted so propane could be pumped into the handrail and ignited from inside the bunker. If people were able to enter the main entrance tube, they would be incinerated before they could begin to attempt to get through the main door. Just hope they weren’t carrying explosives. Perhaps having acid spray through the handrail might be safer. I’d probably attempt something similar to the emergency exit tunnel as everyone will know every bunker has an emergency exit. Perhaps a bit much to install various things to protect the exterior of your bunker is a bit overkill to many, but in a life or death scenario, people will do anything possible to take what you have! Hell, build an external reinforced bunker with nothing but some small rifle openings you can get to through a tunnel and, protect that tunnel with lethal devices in the event they can blast through the external bunker. If you’re going to spend $500k on a bunker, might as well spend several thousands more to protect it! But that’s just me.

Likewise. There's mention of after service by 3rd party, but surely an 8inch pipe exiting waste to some place down hill would have been ideal, clearly with a sealable option or some other one way exit valve? Energy coming in from solar, wind or othercwill need a power conduit coming in. I do worry that some people don't really think too far ahead with bunkers. As storm shelters for a two week stay they are ideal, but when you consider 6 to 12 months occupancy, storing everything you need for that period, then seeds, and growing materials for emerging afterwards. Oh and can we have closed bathrooms please, not corridor style. That was seriously bad planning. Not a fan of the sliding gates either. My thoughts anyway.

This is why the pipes are hidden under fake rocks & real bushes (to hide the fact that there is a bunker in the first place). The bunker is connected to a security video surveilance system (so you can see from the inside if there is people trying to do bad stuff on the surface). If no "external help" is coming to remove the invaders, you can always use the escape tunnel [because it obviously would be a long tunnel (not pictured or sugested to exist here), rather than just a sand_filled hole]. -> This "extension" will probably be made later by "The Contractor" doing other modifications to the Bunker.

@jonesyokc
@jonesyokc 3 жыл бұрын
It is an interesting concept but I would have done a lot different. I would have gone deeper and encased the entire bunker in steel reinforced concrete. You also need an extra layer of metal (I forget which time) to protect against an EMP. The big weakness in the design will be the air intake system. Clog that up and the people inside die in their sleep. I would want a fully sealed off system with scrubbers to clean the air. Basically the same way you would on a space station. I probably would have used dimmable led lighting more like what you'd see in a house versus an office looking light. Not sure how I feel about the bathroom being a pass through. But there might not be many viable options. As a parent I can say you do NOT want the kids room having the air system and the escape hatch. That is just asking for trouble. But that may have been more of a walk through versus how the owners will actually set it up. They may have it flipped with the entertainment room being where the air system is. Regardless, it would be nice to have this. I like the entrance to it. I think my favorite will still be the secret entrance in the kitchen island.

I feel bad for people who get duped by the other company Really. A bomb shelter? Half a million. Atlas are laughing all the way to the bank thanks to American paranoia.

Perhaps I missed it, but it gets extremely cold in Minnesota, I didn’t see an HVAC system, only the air filtration etc. I assume that underground temp in the winter is around 50 degrees F, and summer slightly warmer, maybe 60-65 degrees F.

They could get the prices down if they ramped up production. They have the one plant in Texas that really jacks up the price.

Why would you put the air system inside with the people? Wouldn’t it collect nuclear fallout if there was a nuclear attack? Why not put it in a decontamination area separate from living quarters?

This one actually is beginning to feel like a house not a bunker. Much better for my peace of mind if I owned it.

You said if they poured in gas it would go down check valve, so what happens if they pour in gas and then ignite it?
