Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY , we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

I like how the guide doesn't seem like a crazy doomsday prepper like you would see on TV. It seems like he just enjoys the process of making the bunkers, building them, giving them a second life, basically a glorified man cave, and the end of the world scenarios is an afterthought.

This was really fun to watch. In my experience the prepper/off-grid people I've met have actually been really interesting and not crazy at all. Just normal people who like to use and test their skills to survive without all the crap we've come to rely on. I wish I was able to build things and have the electrical know-how to maintain alternate power systems. And imagine -- these people have almost no monthly bills?

The media loves to portray preppers as crazy doomsday people. I think that people would be better off not being so totally dependent upon "the system". I'm sure that there is great satisfaction in knowing that you can live without all of that. I'll bet that the community there in Bunkerville is the best thing about living there. Think of the aggregate skillsets residing in that rather small area. Need an electrician, plumber, doctor, carpenter? They are probably your nearby neighbors.

He lied though, reality is vivos picked up that land for next to nothing (cost per acre out there is vary low, and the bunkers lower it even more). Its kinda a scam because if you read into their "membership" details. Its 35k for membership then 1k a year under a lease with additional 100 month in HOA fee's (for "security" or some shit). If you really want to live in the middle of no where, you can pickup 40 to 60 acre lots all over the country for 35 to 100k. When you buy a house most of that cost is not the house it self, its the land its on and where its located.

Glad you painted these people for who they are, kind people, with a good sense of humor, with a strong sense of what has real value in life and what's just consumed. Most preppers are like this, not every one lives in a container fort in the Arizonan desert, most just live ordinary life, but are hell bent on not being dependent on corporations and the government. Any one not having a little bit of the prepper inside awakened after last years empty shelves, lockdowns, rising food and fuel prices and the coming recession: don't knock on my door.

Might want to ask what was stored in them before buying. At the Umatilla Chemical Weapons Depot in Eastern Oregon, many of the bunkers held VX nerve agents and mustard gas. Many of the bombs that contained them leaked as well. I had the opportunity to work out there when the place was being decommissioned but didn't figure the risk of exposure was worth the compensation.

Has an engineer I think the same. Those 'Bunkers'' are nothing better than a normal concrete house with a basement. They are not even underground, i can see clearly water filtration issues which means radiation will leak in. But anyways radiation will leak in anyways because the air sistem has no scrubbing system or have powersources. I would take my chances in my concrete house basement. Real bunkers are made near aquifers, o dams. That way you have a giant batery next to you. And have MASIVE industrial scrubbers.

Interesting. I'd be as much interested in something like this as a potential for utilizing a preexisting building and rehabbing it into homes and public spaces. But I do agree with Kara and Nate that Sound Deadening material would have to be on the top of the list, at least in room with the natural con curved roof. I suspect a good bit of thermal insulation also needs to be included in the planning.

I'm relatively sure that those buildings were originally designed to not wholly contain an internal blast, rather to keep it from spreading laterally to the next structure. Essentially, the pressure of the blast was intended to shoot upward. Although these structures would offer a greater deal of safety than an average home, they are unlikely to be as strong as suggested in the video. The whole community aspect of the thing is interesting however, and it looks like the target market for such a neighborhood would figure out how to defend themselves from the filthy remnants of humanity that are sure to become roving bands of fallout pirates bent on attacking.

A good generator and battery combo will run 150 gallons of gas for over a year and a half. You can always just throw this in your basement, after making it sealed and 2 feet thick walls. Now you have a bunker, the cost is extra concrete, air units and a generator/ battery and a blast door.

I think depending on how close a nuke is to detonation all those bunkers wouldn't stop penetration, they are older models and if anyone alter the bunkers with ports or windows that would definitely be vulnerable for blast entry.
