Alex - I noticed that the two case halves could misalign when you only had a few bolts hand tight. I can't help but wonder if case misalignment may have had a role to play in your bearing demise. Have you considered adding dowel pins to the design for positive locating between case halves?

I’m not a machinist, so how would it be possible to align the halves now that they are complete? How would you get correct dowel placement? Can you use the mill to find the exact position? Sorry for the questions 😂
@AmirPomen

Hope this improvement added into the case modification... Adding dowel to the case half bolt holes most likely not that hard to do with milling machine... 2 or 3 dowels should be sufficient...
@bradley3549
@bradley3549 Жыл бұрын
@@mozer30 Great question! I think in a perfect world, the two case halves would be machined with the dowels as part of the original design. And then the crank bores would be line honed with the case halves bolted together to ensure the crank has perfect alignment. That ship has obviously sailed. But that said, Alex should be able to get very precise alignment by setting up the case halves in the mill exactly like he did for the reed valve pocket milling operation. Probe or indicate the orientation against one of the flat case halves or known bolt hole locations and use crank bore as a zero reference (assuming that's what he did anyway.) Lots of good ways to reset a part back in the mill with high precision - whether a manual or CNC machine for that matter.

As far as your mods for different reed valve mounting holes and intake system, seems like you have encountered the same hurdles as 'AutoBeta2T' and his home modified Kawasaki AR50 - his project is to copy the target/achievement of making a classic AR50 do 100 MPH as was tried with a leading/well known Motorcycle magazine back in the day... 97cc head with custom port tuning, bigger valves, making his own tuned exhaust, upgraded (from standard 6v) 12v electrical system, ECU and tuning the timing with his own Dyno and all that to make the power necessary to get that bike to 'Do the tonne'... Both yours and his channels are intriguing to watch and are brilliant in your own respective aspects. I can't wait to see what you do with this little mighty motor and the bike you put it into for your end project goal!. Keep up the great work and I hope 2023 is a great and successful one for you fella! 👍 😎🇬🇧

Another thing I think you need to look at when it comes to using the pipe with methanol or nitromethane is the fact that when they burn they expand several times more than gasoline so you need the correct volume in the pipe to deal with that extra expansion/exhaust volume not just the increase in exhaust pressure caused by burning a denser air/fuel load under boost. The speed that they burn also needs to be taken into account to figure in the wave pulses.. I still think that under boost that pipe is just a restriction and is killing power, but I'm offering more beyond just that thought now.

@ericschumacher5189
@ericschumacher5189 Жыл бұрын
The area under the exhaust side of the cylinder could get a stuffer without restricting the primary intake path…..in the square edge of the bottom of the cylinder resides there currently……if this could get the CCR up to 1.2:1 or greater then the reeds would probably work really well…..also if you end up keeping the reed design for the CR85, then V-force now makes a 4R reed cage that has more bias between the stiffness of the inner vs. outer petals, it may help too with a larger crankcase volume…. Keep up the good work; already excited for the next video 👍🏁👍🏁👍🏁

Love your show, my friends dad used to do performance port work on 2 cycles, it was so fascinating to watch , I have an idea you might try since you have cnc , try to incorporate fins (like turbo cold side) on the outside of the crankshaft counterweights and a sort of port near center axis of crank , and channeled to side ports of cylinder, it would be two port channels to the carb , in my mind it functions , what do you think , it would reduce excess drag from supercharger , its hard to describe but generally both sides of crank would be a turbo , or instead of fins have a progressive pitch on crank weight (like a snail shell ) that induces a pulse to the transfer port, keep up the good work

You really need to look at the area of your exhaust port
@malcrandall1309
@malcrandall1309 Жыл бұрын
I feel that the raised floor of the exhaust port will cause problems at high RPM. What I can understand from what Alex has said over the years the floor of the exhaust port is level with the top of the transfers. This will help reduce fresh mixture going out of the exhaust port at low revs which is no interest to us as were only really bothered from 16k upwards. Remember the old adage, you have to get it out quicker than you put it in. Emissions are of no interest to us at this moment. I genuinley believe the exhaust port floor should be level or slightly below the piston crown at BDC. The A port is very close to the exhaust port leaving little wiggle room with this design. We must remember the exhaust bridge was welded in after casting/printing. If you look in Alex's back catalogue under " Nitro EFI,metal 3D print cylinder with ludicrous porting" from 25th February 2021 it clearly shows the raised exhaust port floor.

Hot blowing is the exhaust valves opening closer to the start of burn and you end up with fire out the exhaust

I would have thought the kart lads would have jumped on this one but no joy. I was thinking along the lines of a 250cc single reed valve used for road racing. I would love to build a A/C 6 speed single purely for nostalgia as this was the class I raced in, in the early 70's before going onto 125's and 250 twins. Alex should have no reliability issus at 20 k except for those nasty spurious oscillations that may crop up. PS, I realise a reed valve would be reliable for something revving to 12k ish. .

@@malcrandall1309 Hey, Malc... I wish that Alex would go to the crankshaft rotary induction system and forget about the reed valve, especially since he is aiming for a peak bhp rpm that will get him the record on the salt. Also, his dyno should be set-up to record data at specific rpm to reflect this load point; who cares if the the engine spools-up smoothly to 20,000 +rpm, as long as it gets there? Simplify, simplify.

Buddy the only fix I found for continuos flood without flat out nozzle was a fuel filter downstream of the pump on the way to the nozzle. Endless sumps didn't do it.
