Imagining justification from inside jail, the traditional reading of Paul makes absolutely perfect sense. I find it almost funny that Campbell thinks otherwise. His emphasis on love and empathy is otherwise commendable.

Douglas Campbell says Ephesians lays out Paul's essential gospel thinking. Can you recommend a good theology of Ephesians from the Apocalyptic perspective that Campbell and Tilling represent?

is the Incarnate Word Paul or Jesus, is Paul the image of the invisible God or Jesus, these two are the perfect example of if the light that is in you be darkness how great is that darkness

"We're projecting it onto God" Ummm pretty sure that Genesis 9:6 is not a result of our "projecting" anything onto God. God instituted the death penalty and human government in Gen 9:6. Also, Paul says that promoting capital punishment is part of the gospel committed to him in 1 Timothy 1:8-11. "We know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully......for manslayers.......according to the glorious gospel committed to my trust."

What no one is mentioning is that this reading of Paul is really Orthodox Christianity. While this reading of Paul might be new to the West, which formulates her understanding of Paul based on the foundations of Roman Catholicism. Eastern Orthodox Christians always held to a covenantal understanding rather than a contractual or forensic understanding of Justification. Read Anastasius, the Cappadocian Fathers, T.F. Torrance.... and then you will realise that this no so much a new reading...but a true reading,

Israel projected alot of things onto God. it's human nature. America is doing the same. or don't you believe the Scriptures when it says the heart is deceitful above all things? or Paul when he says, oh who can save me from this body of death? we carry death in our own bodies. it's not something God gave us. in fact He came to save us from it- both sin And death

If Douglas Campbell rejects sola fide and sola gratia he preaches another gospel. Also, if this is correct, he is incapable of understanding Paul's plain language and should consider a career in construction.

I don't think he's missing anything. In fact he makes it One. Jesus IS the Love of God poured out for us. This is The Gospel. it's man's nature to add to what God had done. as if we could take any credit.
