Best summary video I've seen about Atmos and the bonus of general tracking of big band. Steve is truly a leader and tip of the spear of Atmos. Paved the way for the rest of us working in Atmos right now. Great interview!

Thanks for watching! I learned so much from Steve when I coming up at Capitol. I'm glad to get to share a bit of that with other people here. How long have you been mixing Atmos?

@@progressionspod it was pretty insane. Definitely the Wild West. Such a fan of how vocal Steve has been about the ups and downs, especially when Covid hit, and there he was in his front room as a guest on some webinars with Avid and Dolby, describing how he was getting things to translate just fine with his hodgepodge set up at the time. Definitely not the Dolby certified room that Dolby was so concerned about. He helped clarify what was actually necessary to mix in Atmos versus what manufacturers insisted was the “right” way. 😊

You know somewhere somebody is scheming an Atmos system with main and alt speakers. 😂

Strange mentality to think that if you can't compare to the stereo mix, then you don't know that the stereo mix is better...I don't want to live in a world where I need a surround system to enjoy a mix at its best...
@progressionspod5 ай бұрын
Yeah, the stereo is always better than the binaural Atmos in my opinion as well. Atmos in a room is a lot of fun, but without easy access for the consumer to hear a quality playback it'll be a tough sell for music in the long run.

Definetly disagree about binural render sounding good, it sounds absolutely awful... I hope it isn't here to stay. Such a shame that apple music has spacial audio turned on by default when its available for the song. People who don't know what it is will probably think its something wrong with the song, or don't know how to turn it off because they don't even know its on. Atmos is ok in speakers in my opinion.

Atmos is a rehash!!! Yamaha added spacial environment que with the DSP-1 in the 80s this is just when Dolby was just noise reduction on tapes. I installed my first multi-channel system in the early 90s

The binaural is definitely a very sub par experience and doesn’t do the format justice, which I think really works against it working. Although I really don’t put it past Apple pushing it onto people until they just accept it. Lol. Also the fact that spatial defaults to on for every app (at least it did when I got my AirPod pros more than a year ago) is total nonsense.

Waste of time. People Don’t have time to sit around and actually give their undivided attention to listening to a song, let alone an album of high quality music. People will soon be into AI music sitting behind a short on Instagram.

I am skeptical of formats larger than stereo but I would argue that it isn't a waste of time. There are still people that listen and care. Don't lose hope.

I agree music playback needs one thing interaural crosstalk cancellation. binaural recording had the problem since it's conceptions in 1929 Alan Blumin invention

@@MariJu1ce Let explain Atmos is object placement basically in 3d square at the discretion of the person making the mix/engineer. That is what people don't have time for in Audiophile hobbies

@@MariJu1ce I was referring to listening to a full album to its entirety on something other than a cell phone. Question for you, when is the last time you sat down to listen to a full album without any distractions? No cell phone, no kids, no anything to distract your attention? Heading to your local drug store for some viiagra and standing in line listening to some Muzak doesn’t count! People’s attention span these days is that of a 4 year old with ADHD.
